Race 1
REDLIGHTGREENLIGHT has produced two decent runs to date. He returns from a 10-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. The son of Gimmethegreenlight is a progressive type and will love the rise to 1600m. If jumping on terms, he can go one better.
RED PENNY is better than his last start in the Non-Black Type Highveld Winter Juvenile Stakes. His form prior to that outing was good. He should have no issues with the rise to 1600m and is a solid back-up for the Paul Matchett stable.
MIGHTY EAGLE finished 3.45 lengths behind the second choice in the race referred to above. He finished third in his penultimate run on this course. If putting his best foot forward, he should be involved at the finish.
Race 2
ICONIC WINTER challenged strongly over 1160m at Turffontein last time, but found one too good in the form of Surprise Party. She is having her peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. The daughter of What A Winter is a progressive type and may be the horse to beat.
BLUSHING BLOOM has shown improvement in each of her races to date. She raced from just off the pace last time, but found one too good in the form of Romilly. She is coming along the right way and should be competitive.
EMPRESS WU has finished second in her last four starts. She raced from just off the pace last time, but found one too good in the form of Red Hot Kisses. She is carded to race on 24 July 2025 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 3
XENOPHON has run three good races to date. He showed speed over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time, but did not go on with the effort in the latter stages. Piere Strydom is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
SILVER LONGSWORD stayed on when third over 1160m at Turffontein last time. He is having his peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. The son of William Longsword may be the horse to fill the exacta spot.
POWER OF PEARLS produced an encouraging debut effort over 1000m at Turffontein. She returns from a 27-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. She carries a handy galloping weight of 54.5kgs and if not in need of the run, she should give the males a run for their money.
Race 4
RADIO STAR stayed on at the finish when fifth against winners over 1400m at Turffontein last time. He finished second in his first two career outings. The son of Fire Away will love the rise to 1600m. He is back in Maiden Company and should be the horse to beat.
MATROOSBERG showed very good improvement when third over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course last time. He will strip much fitter and is one of the leading contenders.
LUWAK was in need of his debut effort when third over 1450m on the Turffontein Inside course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The son of Querari would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be right there.
Race 5
BABETTE‘S FEAST ran an encouraging race on debut over 1160m at Turffontein. The daughter of Hawwaam found betting support that day which suggests that she was showing good work at home. She would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1600m. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to beat.
WITCHING HOUR found one too good in the form of Merryweather last time. The daughter of Rafeef is a progressive type and she is one of the leading contenders.
NKWENKWEZI has finished second in her last four starts. She has finished second three times and third once from as many starts over this distance. Piere Strydom is booked to ride and she merits healthy respect.
Race 6
FAMOUS LADY ran a fair race over 1160m at Turffontein last time. Her penultimate run when third over 1400m at Turffontein catches the eye. It is encouraging that Craig Zackey steps back into the saddle. If getting away to a clean start, she can notch up her second-career victory.
MISS LIA is better than her last start in the Grade 2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas. She returns from a 26-week break which would have done her the world of good. She won her only attempt over this C&D and if not in need of the run, she may be hard to peg back.
DESTINY OF FIRE has fair recent form lines to her name. She finished second in her only attempt over this distance. If not in need of this outing, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 7
TOO LATE MY MATE showed some signs of a form return over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course last time. The daughter of Master Of My Fate takes a big drop in class. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
WHIRLYBIRD stayed on when fifth over 1200m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
WAY TO BURN set the pace over 1400m last time and stayed on to finish fifth. She has dropped to a competitive rating and can finish in the placings.
Race 8
PALACE PRINCE took on stronger company in his last start. He followed up his maiden win with a good second-place finish over 1400m. He drops back in class and with Gavin Lerena in the saddle, he may be the one to side with.
FOSTINOVO was outrun late when sixth over this distance on the Inside course last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He is having his peak run today and is one of the leading contenders.
AFTER HOURS was unlucky not to have won his last start over 1400m as he was baulked for running room from the 400m mark to the 200m mark. Piere Strydom retains the ride and with luck in running, he should be competitive.
Race 9
SUMMER WINTER followed up her maiden victory with a good third-place finish over 1200m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack. She raced from a handy position, moved up well before getting outrun late. She finished second in her only attempt over this C&D. This is Piere Strydom’s last ride before retirement and he will be looking to go out on a winning note.
DEAL MAKER produced a decent first run in South Africa. She would have come on from the outing and will strip much fitter.
PREDATRICE showed massive improvement when third over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course last time. The fitting of the compression mask did the trick. If confirming her recent improvement, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest
