Race 1

The imported son of Hurricane Cat, SAUDI CAT was super-impressive when winning on debut over this C&D. He raced from just off the pace, showed a good turn of foot and drew clear of the opposition. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He looks to be above average and can remain unbeaten. 

ALL THE RAGE was finishing strongly when third over 1500m on the Winter course last time. The drop to 1200m should not pose a concern to the son of Rafeef. Aldo Domeyer retains the ride, and the combination merit healthy respect. 

DEMANDING DAVE is better than his last start in the Grade 3 Winter Nursery as the jockey reported something to be amiss. He returns from a 12-week break which would have done him the world of good. It is encouraging that Richard Fourie is booked to ride, and he should produce a positive return to the races. 

Race 2

SWIFT SERENITY has produced three decent runs to date. She jumped outwards leaving the start last time, and stayed on to finish third. Callan Murray retains the ride which is a big plus. She is a filly with scope and in this field, she can shed her maiden tag. 

PENNYS CHOICE finished 3.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. She gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand. 

LAYDELAY is an unraced daughter of Gimmethegreenlight from the Justin Snaith stable with Craig Zackey in the saddle. She is related to six-time winner Blaze Of Silk. If not in need of the run, she should give a good account of herself. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances. 

Race 3

SIERRA SAGRADA was doing his best work late when second over 1400m last time. The gelding seems to have done the trick on the son of One World. He will love the extra 100m on offer and can go one better. 

RED WAVE made the expected natural improvement when third over 1000m last time. The son of Erik The Red is a progressive type who should not have any issues with the rise to 1500m. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces. 

GETUPANDGO showed signs of needing his last start over 1200m. The son of Gimmethegreenlight has scope and will strip much fitter. If jumping on terms, he should have good improvement to come.

Race 4

GIMMELIGHTNING‘S last two starts have been decent. He stayed on after a slow start in the Non-Black Type Winter Sprint last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He has won twice and finished third three times from ten starts over this C&D. If jumping on terms, he should be too good for this field. 

MAURITIUS KESTREL has fair recent form lines to his name. It must be noted that the form of his last outing has been franked. Craig Zackey is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most. 

SCOTTISH KISS showed good improvement over 1400m last time. The form of that race has been franked. He finished 0.3 lengths behind the second choice in his penultimate run. He is 2.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around. 

 

 

Race 5

DU MAURIER was an impressive winner when shedding her maiden tag over 1200m on this course last time. She showed good speed, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. The daughter of Captain Of All takes on stronger, but she has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand. 

ROSA OSIRIA challenged strongly over 1000m last time, but found one too good in the form of Over The Atlantic. If confirming her recent improvement, she should pose a threat. 

GOLDEN IDEAL finished 1.8 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the tables. The booking of Richard Fourie is a big plus.

Race 6

KING‘S QUEST won a good race in his last start over this C&D. He raced from a prominent position, quickened up well and drew off in the latter stages. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He meets a similar line-up this afternoon and can follow up with another victory. 

AFRIQUE finished 1.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. 

BEL CANTO DREAM ran a fair race over this C&D last time. His penultimate run catches the eye. If putting his best foot forward, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest. 

Race 7

STATE CAPITOL moved up well over 1800m last week Tuesday, but found one too good in the form of Baton Rouge. She finished 0.5 lengths behind MIDWAY in her penultimate run. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. With racing fitness on her side, she can go one better. 

MIDWAY won a game race over this C&D last time. The fitting of the blinkers has done the trick. He is in a good space and merits healthy respect. 

SAINT BRIGID stayed on when third over 1200m last time. She won her maiden over this distance. If not too far out of her ground turning for home, she should be involved. She is carded to race on 26 July 2025 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored
