Race 1
CAPTAIN EFFICIENT was not disgraced when second against winners in his last start over 1000m on the Classic course. He is back in Maiden Company and with the services of capable work rider Phelisile Mongqawa, he should go one better.
KING OF NUMBERS showed good improvement when second over this distance on the Classic course last time. He was running on well at the finish that day. He is carded to race on 3 August 2024 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
CAPTAIN JIM is the stable companion of the top choice. He has finished third in his last two starts. It must be noted that the form of his last outing has been franked. If fit, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 2
This is a weak Maiden Handicap for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is SOMEDAY MAYBE from the Kobus Roux stable. She showed good signs of a form return over this C&D last time. If repeating that effort in this type of field, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
BILINGUAL finished 1.75 lengths behind the top selection last time. She is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights and may battle to turn the form around.
RADIANT HEAT is better than her last start over this C&D. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. On best form shown, she is capable of winning a race of this nature.
Race 3
ZOOMBOMBER finished 0.4 lengths behind FULL GO last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The son of Lancaster Bomber should be ideally suited to this distance and from his good draw of three, he may be the one to side with.
FULL GO won a good race in his last start over 1800m on the Classic course. He received a three-pound penalty for that victory. The 6-year-old gelding is in a good space and he merits healthy respect.
FLAG BEARER finished 3 lengths behind the second choice in the race referred to above. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. He is carded to race on 1 August 2024 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 4
APACHE SON should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung outwards in the closing stages. He has been gelded since that outing which may have done the trick. The son of The Apache will love the rise to 1700m and if keeping on a straight line, he should return to winning ways.
CELTIC RUSH raced from a handy position over 1600m last time and stayed on to finish third. Marco van Rensburg is riding at the top of his game and the combination merit healthy respect.
WHISPERS OF WAR ran a fair race over 1600m on this course last time. He gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Trent Mayhew which will assist his cause. He has cracked a good draw of three and must be included in all bets.
Race 5
FEELING GROOVY was running on when second over 1600m on the Classic course last time. She meets a similar type of field this afternoon and Muzi Yeni may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
LEONESSA finished 0.85 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them at the finish. S’manga Khumalo rides from pole position and she cannot be ignored.
LINGANOMORE finished 2.85 lengths behind the top selection in the race referred to above. She has won once, finished second twice and third twice from six starts over this distance. If putting her best foot forward, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 6
RISKY BUSINESS was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over 1450m on the Classic course. She received a two-pound penalty for that victory. The 6yo mare is back against her own sex and she can follow up with another victory.
MIX THE MAGIC won a good race in her last start over 1200m on the Classic course. She was slow into stride and ran on strongly. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
DANCING DORA was a tad disappointing over 1300m last time. She finished 1.5 lengths behind the second selection in her penultimate run. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
Race 7
PURPLENINJATURTLE showed good guts when winning his last start over 1160m at Turffontein. He rallied late and got up where it matters most. The son of Time Thief would have come on from the run. He meets similar company this afternoon and may find himself in the winner’s enclosure once again.
VEGAS HI RISE finished 1.3 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the tables. S’manga Khumalo is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
WARM WINTER NITE showed good speed when winning his last start over 1160m at Turffontein. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and combination merit healthy respect.
Race 8
AFTER HOURS showed good signs of a form return when third over 1300m on this course last time. Three of his seven career victories have come over this distance. It is encouraging that S’manga Khumalo retains the ride and he can return to winning ways.
SOUTHERN STYLE was running on when third on the Classic course last time. She has won once, finished second once and third twice from ten starts over this distance. Should the top choice fluff his lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
COMMANDER OF ALL stayed on when fourth in his post-maiden run over 1000m on the Classic course. He gets the services of Gavin Lerena and should be involved in the fight to the finish
