Race 1

SPIRIT improved when fourth over 1200m on this course last time. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. It must be noted that Happy Verse has come out and won again since. The son of Rafeef has been gelded which may have done the trick. He may be the one to side with. 

MARKETA has finished third in her last two starts over this C&D. 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Brevan Plaatjies retains the ride and she should give the males a run for their money. 

DAY IN DAY OUT was a tad disappointing over 1200m last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He has been gelded which may have been what he needed. If finding the form of his debut run, he should be involved in the fight to the finish. 

Race 2

MATCH THAT is better than her last start in the Grade 3 Winter Nursery. She won a good race on debut over 1000m on this course. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight should enjoy the step up to 1200m. It is encouraging that Andrew Fortune steps back into the saddle and she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure. 

SPORTS FAN hails from the visiting Kelly Mitchley stable. She showed good speed when winning her last start over 1000m at Fairview. It must be noted that the second and third placed horses have come out and won since. If all went well with her travels, she should be competitive. 

PARALEGAL‘S last two starts have been fair. She gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Brevan Plaatjies which will assist her cause. The daughter of Captain Of All can finish in the money.

Race 3

FUTURE FREE caught the eye when third over this C&D on debut. He lost a length leaving the start and finished off his race strongly. He is related to Eight On Eighteen and will be at his best over further. However, the son of Futura would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he can go close. 

KANAAL SKATER is better than his last start over this C&D. His debut effort when third was encouraging. The son of One World has plenty of scope and he should pose a threat. 

PALANCAR stayed on when second over this C&D last time. If confirming his recent improvement, he should be involved in the fight to the finish. 

Race 4

CLAIR DE LUNE stayed on when second over this C&D last time, but found one too good in the form of Rikkitikkitavi. The well-bred daughter of Trippi has some class about her and she can go one better in this line-up. 

THINGAMABOB stayed on when third over 1000m on this course last time. The daughter of Trippi will enjoy the step up to 1200m and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces. 

RED TAFFETY showed improvement when second over this C&D last time. It must be noted that Electromagnetism has come out and won again since. She is a progressive type and there may be more to come from her.

Race 5

LADY VERITAS ran a fair race on debut over 1400m on this course. She lost a length leaving the start, had to check at the 150m mark but stayed on nicely at the finish. It is encouraging that Richard Fourie is booked to ride. The daughter of Legislate would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to beat. 

BEACH QUEEN was her own worst enemy last time as she over raced around the turn. Her penultimate run when second under Muzi Yeni catches the eye. She has cracked a good draw of two and back in Maiden Company, she should pose a threat. 

OCOTILLO was outrun late when third over 1400m last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She is likely to race on the speed from pole position and cannot be ignored. 

 

 

Race 6

STRAWBERRY THIEF drew off well when winning her last start over this C&D. The daughter of Canford Cliffs received a six-pound penalty for that victory. She meets a similar line-up this afternoon and can follow up with another victory. 

LAVENDER BAY finished 1.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today which is enough for the tables to be turned. However, STRAWBERRY THIEF won easier than the official margin suggests and she may still have the upper hand. 

LICKETY SPLIT stayed on when third over this C&D last time. She is having her peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. She has cracked a good draw of three and can feature.

Race 7

MAGIC VERSE stayed on strongly when third in the Listed Pocket Power Stakes last time. He has won twice from three starts over this distance. He is entered for the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Durban July. The son of Vercingetorix may be the one to beat. 

SUGAR MOUNTAIN won a good race in his last start over 1400m. Two of his nine victories have come over this distance. Aldo Domeyer retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect. 

SEEKING THE STARS finished 1.95 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result. 

Race 8

KAIBOY stayed on when fifth over 1100m on this course last time. He has won once and finished second once from three starts over this C&D. It is encouraging that Andrew Fortune is booked to ride, as his riding style may suit the son of One World. If all goes according to plan, he can return to winning ways. 

DANCE VARIETY was in need of his comeback run in the Grade 3 Champagne Stakes. Three of his six career victories have come over this C&D. He will strip a much fitter horse and is one of the leading contenders. 

DUMBLEDORE ran on powerfully when winning his last start over this C&D. Richard Fourie retains the ride and the combination merit healthy respect.

Race 9

MONT LOISIR is better than his last start over 1400m. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. Richard Fourie won aboard him, three runs ago. The son of Vercingetorix may be the horse to side with. 

SUN DAZED finished 0.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish. 

FIRINGONALLENGINES set the pace over 1400m last time before getting outrun late. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

Race 10

GOLDEN TATJANA finished 3.05 lengths behind PINK PIGEON last time. She is 5.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. Apprentice Brevan Plaatjies takes the 2.5kgs off her back which will assist her cause. She is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back. 

PINK PIGEON challenged strongly over 1100m last time, but found one too good in the form of Babelicious. She is having her peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. The daughter of Querari is one of the leading contenders. 

PEACE OF MIND is better than her last start. If finding the form of her penultimate run, she should be involved at the finish
