RACE 1
ICE CAP is having her first run in the Eastern Cape for Trainer Gavin Smith. Her penultimate run when fourth against winners, catches the eye. Muzi Yeni is booked to ride and if settled into her new surroundings, she can shed her maiden tag.
QUEEN OFTHE PALACE showed good improvement in her local debut over this C&D. She had to be steadied when leaving the start but stayed on at the business end. If getting away to a clean start, she should pose a threat.
AUDACIOUS ran a decent race when fourth over 1200m on the turf. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. If suited to the polytrack, there should be more to come.
RACE 2
CORAL CREEK produced a promising debut effort over 1000m on this course. He showed good pace and stayed on well at the finish. The son of Global View would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1300m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should go one better.
JAMES FITZJAMES is having his first run for the Gavin Smith stable. He should enjoy the drop to 1300m and the blinkers will keep his mind on the task at hand. If suited to this course, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
HAT HOT HAT ran on when second over this C&D last time. He runs well for Jockey Marco van Rensburg and if not too far out of his ground turning for home, he should be involved at the finish.
RACE 3
TORIX NIGHT ran a good race when fourth in his local debut over 2000m on the turf. He was reported to be cut into and coughing that day. It must be noted that the horse that finished third has come out and won since. If suited to the polytrack surface, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
MAYOR OF MERRIVALE has finished third in his last two starts over 1600m. He tries the 1900m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
AGAMEMNON is having his first run for the Kelly Mitchley stable. He gets the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Nirvan Nastili which will assist his cause. If not in need of this run, there should be improvement to come.
RACE 4
RAISING QUINN moved up like a winner over this C&D last time, but was caught in the shadow of the post. She has won twice, finished second once and third twice from six starts over this C&D. She is drawn widest of all, but gets the services of Denis Schwarz who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle. BEAU KALA finished 0.25 lengths behind
GET IT DONE last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She will strip much fitter and will be hard to peg back.
GET IT DONE was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over this distance on the turf. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She is in a good space and can notch up the hat-trick.
Race 5
MEETATTHEWINDSOR lacked extra late when fifth over this C&D last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He finished 1.8 lengths behind CAPTAINS WALK in his penultimate run. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. Sean Veale rides from pole position and he should get the best out of him.
CAPTAINS WALK won a good race over this C&D last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He carries another handy galloping mass and can follow up.
SAND BANK is better than his last three starts. It must be noted that Destiny’s Angel has come out and won again since. He gets the services of Muzi Yeni and can show improvement.
Race 6
ARTICUNO returns from a 16-week break and is having her first run for the Alan Greeff stable. She has dropped in the ratings and races well over this distance. If suited to the polytrack, she can make her local debut a winning one.
AADEHYA set the pace over 1200m last time and fought back well. He has won once, finished second once and third once from four starts over this C&D. Muzi Yeni rides and if not in need of the run, he can go close.
VEGAS GOLD has been disappointing in his last two starts. He has won three times and finished third once from six starts over this distance. The 6-year-old gelding takes a drop in class and from his good draw of three, he can find a form return.
RACE 7
EUROPEAN SUMMER ran a fair race over 1100m on the turf last time. She finished 0.25 lengths behind GOCEKWITHLOVE in her penultimate run. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. Two of her three career victories have come over this C&D. She drops in class and can return to winning ways.
GOCEKWITHLOVE ran a decent race when fourth over 1200m last time. She raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. The drop to 1000m is a slight concern, but she is in a good space and merits inclusion.
UNITED EXPRESS was badly in need of her last start over 1400m. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. She has won once, finished second once and third once from four starts over this distance. The 5yo mare will not be a shock winner.
RACE 8
PASHTUNWALI’S last two starts have been good. He has won twice and finished third twice from seven starts over this C&D. If getting away to a clean start from his good draw of four, he can notch up his fifth-career victory.
COASTAL PATH finished 1.45 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
MISS SHAIVI was caught late when second over 1000m on this course last time. She received a two-pound penalty for that run. Muzi Yeni is booked to ride and she should give the males a good run for their money
