Race 1
ONE FINE WINTER produced an eye-catching debut effort over 1000m in the Listed TAB Storm Bird Stakes. She ran on strongly at the finish that day and will love the extra 100m on offer. The daughter of What A Winter would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should take a power of beating. Six of the eight runners in this contest are unraced and the betting market will be the best guide with regards to their chances.
WALL STREET is a son of The United States from the David Nieuwenhuizen yard with Muzi Yeni up. He is related to multiple winners including War Empress and Officer In Command. If not too green in running, he should start his career on a positive note.
SAKETINI is a son of Danon Platina from the Mike and Adam Azzie stable. His mother, Gin Fizz was a four-time winner from 1000m – 1450m.
Race 2
TINA LOVELACE should have finished closer to the winner on debut in the Listed TAB Storm Bird Stakes. She took an awkward stride at the 100m mark. The daughter of Danon Platina would have gained from the experience. She takes on Maiden Company and unless one of the first timers is a superstar, she should be the one to beat.
OPERA FAN showed good improvement when third over 1160m on this course last time. She is a progressive type and may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
HOT COCOA is an unraced daughter of Querari from the Mike and Adam Azzie stable with Muzi Yeni in the saddle. If not in need of this outing, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her and the other unraced entrants.
Race 3
APACHE CHIEF has produced two good second place finishes over this C&D. He cost himself winning last time as he hung in the final 500m. He will be at peak fitness for this outing and Gavin Lerena retains the ride. If keeping on a straight line, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
SOVEREIGN CROWN stayed on at the finish over 1700m last time, but found one too good in the form of Hat Furious. He has finished third twice from three starts over this distance. He is carded to race on 13 March 2025 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
CRONUS is better than his last start as he was reported to be not striding out. He tries the mile and if finding the form of his debut run, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 4
AURORA GREEN showed good improvement when second over 1500m on the Vaal Classic course last time. She was slow into stride, but stayed on at the finish. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight is a progressive type and will love the rise to 1600m. She is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from the widest draw and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
MATTIAZO finished 2.9 lengths behind the top choice on debut. The daughter of Silvano would have come on from the run and will love the rise to 1600m. With the natural improvement that is expected, she may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
THE MIGHTIEST is better than her last start as she was reported to be not striding out. She finished second in her penultimate run over this C&D. The daughter of Captain Of All cannot be ignored.
Race 5
RADICCHIO finished 2 lengths behind PURPLE PITCHER last time. He is 7kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. If keeping on a straight line, he can notch up his ninth-career victory.
PURPLE PITCHER set the pace in the Grade 3 Betway London News Stakes last time, but found one too good in the form of Son Of Raj. He gets the blinkers fitted which should keep his mind on the task at hand. The son of New Predator merits healthy respect.
HOTARUBI produced a strong finish when winning his last start over 1400m. He is in a good space and if repeating that effort, he can follow up.
Race 6
POMODORO’S JET has won his last two starts with ease. He set the pace in the Listed Wolf Power 1600, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The cheekpieces have done the trick and he should be too good for this field.
GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE ran a fair race in his comeback run over this C&D. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Andrew Fortune is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
CAPTAIN PEG returns from an 18-week break which would have done her the world of good. On best form shown, she should give the males a run for their money.
Race 7
ELEGANT ICE stayed on when sixth over 1000m on this course last time. She has won once, finished second twice and third once from as many starts over this C&D. Ryan Munger is booked to ride and she can return to winning ways.
ALMOND SEA got up late when winning the Listed Betway Swallow Stakes last time. She finished 1 length behind the top choice, three runs ago. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.
MIA MOO set the pace in the Grade 3 SplashOut Prix Du Cap last time before getting outrun late. Two of her three career victories have come over this C&D. Piere Strydom is booked to ride and the combination merit healthy respect.
Race 8
MARY’S GREENLIGHT stayed on when third over 1600m on this course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Three of her five career victories have come on this course. She is the class horse in this contest and can return to winning ways.
OXALIS GOLD stayed on when fifth over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course last time. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. She carries a handy galloping mass of 52kgs and is a solid back-up for the Mike and Mathew de Kock stable.
JUST BE LEKKER is better than her last start over 1160m. Her penultimate run when fourth over 1200m on the Inside course was fair. On best form shown, she should be involved at the finish.
Race 9
GOLDEN MOMENT stayed on when second over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course last time. She won on debut on this course. The daughter of Pomodoro is having her peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. With a bit of luck from her awkward draw of nine, she should be the one to beat.
ACCEPT COOKIES finished 1.2 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.
ROAMING SPIRIT won her maiden easier than the official margin suggests. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. Gavin Lerena retains the ride. She does take on stronger, but has scope and should be up to the task at hand
