Race 1

ALAKANANI was not disgraced against winners over 2000m on the Classic course last time. He finished second under Tom Lukhele, on this course in his penultimate run. The son of Legislate is back in Maiden Company and he may be the one to side with. He is carded to race on 22 May 2025 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.

BRIGHAM was doing his best work late when fourth over 1600m last time. He finished 3.5 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms and he may have to settle for the same result.

ART NOUVEAU is better than her last start as she was reported to be not striding out. She finished third in her only attempt over this distance. Phelisile Mongqawa is booked to ride and she should give the males a run for their money.

Race 2

CONSTELLATION was a beaten odds-on favourite over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He tries the tongue-tie for the first time which may do the trick.

SYLVAN WARRIOR followed up his maiden win with a short head victory over this distance on the Classic course. He is in a good space and can notch up the hat-trick.

NYAKA NYAKA showed speed when winning his maiden over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course. He is a progressive type and cannot be ignored.

Race 3

DESERT CLOUD is better than her last start as she received a bump leaving the start and was reported to be not striding out. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight has ability and can get it right this afternoon.

JAPANESE GARDEN set the pace over 1450m last time, but found one too good in the form of Back From War. She drops to 1200m which may do the trick. Gavin Lerena retains the ride, and she is one of the leading contenders.

EMPRESS WU stayed on when second over 1000m on the Classic course last time. She shows speed in her races and may be hard to peg back under Andrew Fortune.

Race 4

JOHNNY DRAMA was touched off in his last start over 1250m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville. He returns from a 10-week break, during which time he changed stables. The blinkers seem to have done the trick and he can shed his maiden tag.

MIZZEN SWORD was running on when second over 1160m at Turffontein last time. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

WALL STREET ran a good race on debut when third over 1100m at Turffontein. He returns from an 11-week break, during which time he changed stables. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and he should make the natural progression.

Race 5

THE ULTIMATE KING followed up his maiden win with a hard fought victory over 1600m at Turffontein. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he will love the rise to 2000m. The son of Vercingetorix has ability and with Gavin Lerena retaining the ride, he can bring up the hat-trick.

COPPOLA finished 2 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and there should nurffontein last time. His last victory came over this distance. With a bit of luck in running, he should be involved at the finish.

ALADDIN’S LAMP was running on when second over 1600m at Turffontein last time. His last victory came over this distance. With a bit of luck in running, he should be involved at the finish.

Race 6

CARNELO finished 0.2 lengths behind STORM AHEAD last time. He is 5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The 6yo gelding is likely to race on the speed and he may be hard to peg back.

INSTANT ATTRACTION followed up her maiden victory with a good second-place finish over 2000m at Turffontein. She has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this distance. Apprentice Trent Mayhew is back in the saddle and she should go close.

STORM AHEAD cost himself winning last time as he hung inwards in the final 250m. He is back on the Highveld and if keeping on a straight line, he can go one better.

Race 7

CEUTA showed good signs of a form return over 1160m at Turffontein last time. She should have finished closer as she was baulked for running room from the 300m mark to the 150m mark. She is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D and will be looking to keep that record intact.

BLIND AMBITION ran on well when winning her last start over 1400m on this course. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She is in a good space and can follow up.

CAPE LIGHTS has fair form lines to her name. She has won twice, finished second three times and third twice from 14 starts over this distance. She continues to drop in the ratings and can finish in the placings.

Race 8

PAUL REVERE is better than his last start in the Non-Black Type Secretariat Stakes. He finished 1.5 lengths behind KING OF NUMBERS in his penultimate start. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.

KING OF NUMBERS’ last three starts have been good. He has won twice and finished second once from five starts over this distance. Apprentice Girish Dookhit takes the 4kgs off his back which will assist his cause.

FOSTINOVO returns from a 21-week break. He takes a drop in class and carries a big mass of 62.5kgs. If not in need of the run, he should give a good account of himself.

Race 9

ALONE TIME showed good improvement when third over this C&D last time. He took on much stronger opposition that day. He has won once and finished third twice from four starts over this C&D. The son of Willow Magic has dropped to a competitive rating and with Andrew Fortune in the saddle, he can return to winning ways.

VEGAS HI RISE stayed on when third over 1100m at Turffontein last time. Two of his five career victories have come over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

MICKE’S BOMB ran a good race when third over 1000m at Turffontein last time. She stayed on nicely at the finish that day. If confirming her recent improvement, she should give the males a run for their money
