Race 1
MIST IN IRELAND produced a decent debut effort over 1160m on the Standside course. She understandably raced green, but stayed on nicely to finish fourth. The daughter of Danon Platina would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1500m. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to beat.
SPY STORY ran a fair race over 1400m at the Vaal last time. She gets the services of capable work rider Anathi Feni. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
PRAIRIE SPRING is an unraced daughter of Potala Palace and she is the stable companion of the top choice. If not too green, she should give a good account of herself. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.
Race 2
HONORABLE MEMBER ran a fair race in her comeback run over 1450m on this course. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. She would have come on from the outing and should strip much fitter. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and she should give the males a run for their money.
SAFE SPACE was running on when second over 1700m at the Vaal last time. Two of his four career victories have come over this distance. He drops back in class and is one of the leading contenders.
WHISPERS OF WAR has fair recent form lines to his name. It must be noted that the form of his last outing has been franked. He is suited to this C&D and cannot be ignored.
Race 3
VIBE SA has finished second in his last four starts. He returns from a 19-week break which may have done him the world of good. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
LLOYD WRIGHT showed good improvement in his last start over 1160m on the Standside course. The son of Futura is a progressive type and may be the one to complete the exacta in this field.
LETONA was in need of his debut effort over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course. The son of Potala Palace would have gained from the experience and over the extra 200m, he should have improvement to come.
Race 4
MONTANA LIGHTS showed very good improvement when third over 1000m on this course last time. She raced on the speed before getting outrun late. The daughter of Master Of My Fate would have come on from the run and she should strip much fitter. She meets the right field and should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
IZANAMI had excuses on debut over 1160m on the Standside course. The daughter of Danon Platina would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she can feature.
MILO‘S MILLIONAIRE had excuses in her last start over 1000m at the Vaal. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight has plenty of scope and can show improvement in this line-up.
Race 5
CLEAR THE PATH has shown good improvement in his last three starts. He jumped awkwardly when leaving the machine last time but stayed on to finish fourth. The son of Pathfork should love the rise to 2600m. He is a progressive type and may be the one to side with.
THE MERCIFUL has finished third in his last two starts. He is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. If seeing out the extra distance on offer, he may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
SPLASHLANDING finished 2.5 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
Race 6
LEAO ALADO showed good signs of a form return in his comeback run over this C&D. He should have finished closer to the winner that day as he had to be switched for running room at the 300m mark. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He will strip a much fitter horse and from pole position, he may be the one to side with.
CIRCLE OF GRACE finished 0.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.
MOUNT ETNA showed good improvement in her last start over 1600m on the Standside course. She stayed on at the finish but found one too good in the form of Theatre Of Life. She will strip much fitter and should give the males a run for their money.
Race 7
SAIGON SUZIE followed up her maiden victory with a good fourth-place finish over this C&D. She was slow into stride and stayed on at the finish. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight makes her Handicap debut and she has plenty of scope. This is a small field and she should not be too far off the leaders turning for home. With luck in running, she can win.
LADY OF MEMPHIS won a good race on debut over 1000m at the Vaal. The daughter of Royal Mo takes on stronger, but she could be anything and can remain unbeaten.
THERE SHE GOES‘ last two starts have been fair. She gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Trent Mayhew which will assist her cause. The 6yo mare should earn another cheque for her patrons.
Race 8
ALONE TIME finished 0.25 lengths behind COMMANDER OF ALL last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. The removal of the blinkers may do the trick. Denis Schwarz steps back into the saddle and from his good draw of two, he may be hard to peg back.
COMMANDER OF ALL has consistent form lines to his credit. With a bit of luck in running, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
LAVA FIRE found outside betting support when winning his last start over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course. He received a six-pound penalty for that victory. The drop to 1200m is a slight concern but he is in a good space and cannot be ignored
