Race 1
WINTER BELLE made the trip to KZN to make her debut in the Grade 3 Tote Strelitzia Stakes. The jockey reported something to be amiss in running that day. It must be noted that Quickstepgal has come out and won again since. The daughter of What A Winter would have gained from the experience and in Maiden Company, she may be the one to side with.
STONE OF SCONE showed good improvement when second over this C&D. The manner in which she finished off her race that day was encouraging. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride, and there should be more to come.
SISTERSHIP is an unraced daughter of Rafeef from the Alec Laird stable with Calvin Habib in the saddle. She is related to six-time winner Rulership. If not in need of the run, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her and the other unraced entrants.
Race 2
JABARI THIMBA is an unraced son of Pathfork from the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable with Gavin Lerena in the saddle. He is related to multiple winners including Millahue and Garrix. If not in need of this outing, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other first timers.
DETAILED FORECAST was in need of her debut effort against winners over this C&D. She would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the first raced runner past the post.
GAVIUS MAXIMUS is a son of The United States from the Johan Janse van Vuuren yard. He is related to four-time winner Champion Warrior. S’manga Khumalo rides and if not too green, he should give a good account of himself.
Race 3
FIERY ROSE finished second in both starts to date. She raced from just off the pace over 1000m last time but found one too good in the form of Queen’s Pact. The daughter of Fire Away takes on males, but it is a weak line-up. She carries a handy galloping mass of 54.5kgs and should shed her maiden tag.
TITAN OF THE TURF is an unraced son of William Longsword from the Tony Peter stable with Craig Zackey in the saddle. He does not need to be a stable superstar to win in this field. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.
LANNYBOY is a son of Lance from the St John Gray stable with Calvin Habib booked to ride. He is related to three-time winner Potberrie. If not in need of the run, he should give a good account of himself.
Race 4
SEASON‘S GREETINGS made the expected natural improvement when third over this C&D last time. She raced from just off the pace and stayed on at the finish. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Potala Palace is a progressive type and with Gavin Lerena retaining the ride, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
WISE COUNSEL ran a fair race on debut over 1000m at the Vaal. She would have come on from the run and will love the rise to 1160m. She takes on Maiden Company and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be competitive.
MASTER‘S LADY was a tad disappointing over 1000m last time. Her debut effort when third over this C&D catches the eye. She is a filly with scope and cannot be ignored.
Race 5
RODEO DRIVE‘S last three starts have been decent. She was reported to be not striding out over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Greyville last time. She has won once, finished second twice and third once from six starts on this course. She drops back to 1000m and will strip much fitter. Craig Zackey steps back into the saddle and she can go close.
CHIEFTAIN was outrun late over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time. He has won once and finished second once from three starts over this C&D. He will strip much fitter and should be the first male past the post.
SHELDON was in need of his comeback run over this C&D last time. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. There should be good improvement to come from the 6yo gelding.
Race 6
RAFA BAY ran a good race in his first start for the Tony Peter stable. He showed good pace after jumping inwards at the start, and was outrun late. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride, and he may be the horse to side with.
HEMISPHERE should have finished closer to the winner last time. He won his maiden over this C&D, three runs ago. The son of Vercingetorix has scope and he should be involved at the finish.
BOURBON RESERVE is better than his last start over this C&D. He returns from a 10-week break which may have done him the world of good. He won his maiden with ease under Calvin Habib and should have a say.
Race 7
MISS HANNIGAN finished 0.5 lengths behind GLAMOROUS LADY last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She finished second in her only attempt over this C&D. She is drawn widest of all, but S’manga Khumalo knows her well and he should give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
FRANCINE is better than her last start in the Grade 3 Dennis Drier Poinsettia Stakes. Her previous two efforts were decent. She jumps from a good draw of two and is one of the leading contenders.
GLAMOROUS LADY set the pace over 1600m on the Inside course last time and stayed on to finish third. She carries a handy galloping mass of 52kgs and from pole position, she may be hard to peg back.
Race 8
PRINCESS ILARIA has very good consistent form lines to her credit. She challenged strongly over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time but found one too good in the form of One Smart Cookie. She jumps from pole position and can notch up her sixth-career victory.
BOOM BOOM is the stable companion of the top choice. She was running on when second over 1600m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. She is likely to be settled near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
QUANTUM finished 2.1 lengths behind the second selection last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
Race 9
PHALA MILLIONS was caught late when second over 1200m at the Vaal last time. He has won once and finished third twice from five starts over this C&D. Malesela Katjedi knows him well and he may be the one to side with.
PRIZED PLATINUM finished 1.35 lengths behind BREGARDT last time. He is 5.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
ENSUING ran a fair race over 1200m at the Vaal last time. He is having his peak run and will be cherry-ripe. Despite his big mass of 63kgs, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest
