RACE 1
NORTH STAR was super-impressive when winning on debut over 1000m on this course. She was slow into stride, took time to find her feet but drew clear of the opposition with ease. The daughter of Erik The Red would have gained from the experience and she should enjoy the rise to 1200m. She looks to have class about her and can remain unbeaten.
READY stayed on at the finish in the Listed WSB Dahlia Plate last time. He was an impressive winner of his penultimate run over 1000m on the polytrack. He tries the tongue-tie which may do the trick. Should the top choice fluff her lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
AUGUSTA ROSSO is better than her last start in the Listed Lady’s Slipper Stakes. She finished 0.75 lengths behind the second choice in her penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
RACE 2
WILD FIG ran a fair race on debut over 1200m on this course. It must be noted that the horses that finished second and third that day have come out and won since. The son of Fire Away should love the rise to 1400m and with luck in running, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
MIO DESTINO showed massive improvement when second over 1200m on this course last time. He should enjoy the rise to 1400m and from pole position, he may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
OLIVE OYL has finished third in her last three starts. She got going too late over this C&D last time. The daughter of Vercingetorix should give the males a run for their money.
RACE 3
GARDEN SUN was running on when second over 1600m on this course last time. The son of Flower Alley will love the rise to 2000m. He has cracked a good draw of three and can shed his maiden tag with Chad Little retaining the ride.
HENRY‘S HEDGE showed signs of needing his last two starts. It must be noted that Heemstede has come out and won again since. The son of Louis The King will be at peak fitness and Richard Fourie may be able to get the best out of him where it matters most.
PARDON ME finished 3 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 3kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. The son of The Apache is a solid back-up for the Juan Nel stable.
RACE 4
GLOBAL ALLY has consistent form lines to his name. He received a bump leaving the start over 2000m last time and finished off his race well. He finished 0.75 lengths behind BINGWA, four runs ago. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. If getting away to a clean start, he can notch up his eighth-career victory.
ZINOVI finished 0.1 lengths behind the top selection last time. He is 3kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.
BINGWA is a winner of his last two starts, the latest of which was over this C&D. He returns from a 15-week break and if not in need of this outing, he can bring up the hat-trick.
RACE 5
WINTER EMERALDS is unbeaten from two starts since arriving in the Eastern Cape. He ran on from last over 1400m on this course last time. The son of What A Winter should have no issues with the rise to 1600m. He is likely to be settled near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
LANCIAFIAMME won his last start over this C&D easier than the official margin suggests. The cheekpieces have done the trick and he is one of the leading contenders.
DYNALLEY tried hard when second over this distance on the polytrack last time, but found one too good in the form of Waz Wouter. The tongue-tie seems to have done the trick and he should be competitive.
Race 6
This is a competitive Classified Stakes field and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is FIRE ALARM from the Alan Greeff stable. She raced from a handy position over 1400m on the polytrack last time and tried hard all the way to the line. The daughter of Fire Away may be ideally suited to this distance and she can notch up her second-career victory.
FLOWER FESTIVAL won a game race over this distance on the polytrack last time. She received a two-pound penalty for that victory. She is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
FAMILY POWER has relocated to the Eastern Cape and she is having her first run for Gavin Smith. She is better than her recent form suggests and if settled into her new surroundings, she would not be a shock winner.
RACE 7
KINGDUNDEE is the best bet on the programme. He was an easy winner of his last start in the Fairview Flying Five. The son of The United States returns from a well-deserved 11-week break which would have done him the world of good. He is loaded with ability and can keep his unbeaten record over this C&D intact.
FIRST ORIGIN is better than his last start as he was reported to be not striding out. He finished 2.25 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
CLIFF TOP was an easy winner of his last start over this distance on the polytrack. He finished 4.25 lengths behind KINGDUNDEE, three runs ago. He is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result..
RACE 8
COASTAL PATH has very good consistent form lines to his credit. He cost himself winning last time as he hung inwards in the final 400m. He has won three times, finished second once and third twice from ten starts over this C&D. If keeping on a straight line, he can notch up his fifth-career victory.
SILVERY SURFER finished 4 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
IMAGINABLE returns from a 31-week break and is having his first run for Gavin Smith. The son of William Longsword is at his best over further, but he has the ability to be competitive in a race of this nature
