Race 1
EXCEEDINGLY GLAM showed good speed over 1160m on the Standside course last time, but found one too good in the form of Grey Jet. She finished second in her penultimate run over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course. The daughter of What A Winter is having her peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. Piere Strydom is booked to ride and she can go one better.
MIST IN IRELAND finished 2.25 lengths behind the top choice on debut. She would have come on from the run and should love the rise to 1400m. She is carded to race on 14 November 2024 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
GREAT NOTION showed some improvement in her last start over 1160m on this course. The daughter of Danon Platina is a progressive type and she should have more to come.
Race 2
CHABAL produced an encouraging debut effort over this distance at the Vaal. He would have gained from the experience and it is a big plus that Gavin Lerena is booked to ride. With the natural improvement that is expected, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
BEYNAC ran a decent race in his last start over this distance at the Vaal. He lost a length leaving the start and stayed on at the finish. He will strip a much fitter horse and he is one of the leading contenders.
SERRANO returns from a 10- week break, during which time he was gelded. The son of Buffalo Bill Cody gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep his mind on the task at hand. With luck in running, he may be hard to peg back.
Race 3
KINDRED HEART showed good signs of a form return in her last start over this distance on the Inside course. She showed good speed that day before getting outrun late. She has won once and finished third twice from four starts over this distance. The daughter of Erupt gets the services of top jockey Piere Strydom and she can return to winning ways.
CHIEFTAIN finished 0.25 lengths behind KING OF VENUS on Monday. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
KING OF VENUS is a winner of his last two starts. He showed good speed over this C&D on Monday and fought hard. He received a three-pound penalty for that victory. If this outing has not come too soon, he can bring up the hat-trick
Race 4
Trainer Johan Janse van Vuuren holds a strong hand in this contest and he can saddle the first two past the post. COSMIC STAR ran a fair race in the Listed Allied Steelrode Golden Loom Handicap last time. He has won once, finished second once and third once from five starts over this C&D. He is having his peak run and with Gavin Lerena in the saddle, he may be the one to side with.
KARANGETANG showed good speed when winning his last start over this distance on the Inside course. He gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Trent Mayhew which will assist his cause. The son of Erupt may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
VIRGINIA BEACH has consistent form lines to her credit. It must be noted that Ice Star has come out and won again since. She carries a handy galloping mass of 54kgs and should give the males a run for their money.
Race 5
MIA MOO‘S last two starts have been good. She should have won her last start as she hung inwards in the final 600m. She has won once and finished third twice from five starts on this course. If Craig Zackey is able to keep her on a straight line, she should notch up her third-career victory.
BAKWENA ran a fair race over 1200m on the Inside course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She is the best-weighted runner in this contest and should pose a massive threat.
KOMMETJIE STORM was an easy winner over this C&D last time. She showed good speed, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. The daughter of Elusive Fort takes on stronger, but she has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.
Race 6
KEY ELEMENT was not disgraced when fifth in the Grade 2 Betway Joburg Spring F & M Challenge last time. She set the pace that day and tired in the latter stages. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She has won once, finished second once and third once from six starts over this C&D. She is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
SUKHUMVIT ran a good race when second in the Grade 3 Allied Steelrode Yellowwood Handicap last time. She has won once, finished second three times and third once from as many starts on this course. With a bit of luck from her wide draw, she should pose a threat.
LADY FALLON finished 2.25 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.
Race 7
STREWN SKY finished 0.3 lengths behind BIRTHRIGHT last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. His best form has been under Gavin Lerena and he can return to winning ways.
BIRTHRIGHT ran a good race when third over 1800m on this course last time. He finished third in his only attempt over this distance. The son of William Longsword may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
SAY IT WITH ROSES showed signs of needing her last start over 1800m at the Vaal. She has won once and finished third once from as many starts on this course. She will strip much fitter and can show.
Race 8
GREENHOUSE was given a peach of a ride when winning her maiden over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course. The daughter of Danon Platina takes on stronger and she has plenty of scope. Malesela Katjedi is likely to switch her off near the rear of the field from her wide draw and she will be mowing down the frontrunners.
KISSING MACHINE has produced two good second place finishes since winning her maiden. She returns from a 29-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. If not in need of this outing, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
QUANTUM ran a fair race in her comeback run over 1600m on this course. She would have come on from the outing and should strip much fitter. She drops back in Class and cannot be ignored
