MOUNT AUGUSTUS has shown good improvement in each of his outings to date. He raced on the speed over 1000m last time before getting outrun late by Spirit. The son of Vercingetorix is a progressive type and should have no issues with the rise to 1200m. JP van der Merwe steps back into the saddle and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. 

TIME HONORED showed massive improvement when fourth over this C&D last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He will strip much fitter and may be the horse to fill the exacta spot. 

IKO IKO was a tad disappointing over 1000m last time. He finished second in his previous two efforts. He steps up to 1200m and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he can finish in the placings.

Race 2

BATON ROUGE showed a good turn of foot when winning his last start over 1950m on this course. He received a five-pound penalty for that victory. Richard Fourie retains the ride and despite his big mass of 64kgs, he can follow up with another victory. 

STATE CAPITOL showed good signs of a form return when third over 1600m on this course last time. The manner in which she ran on at the finish that day was encouraging. She will strip much fitter and should give the males a run for their money. 

MELA STRENGTH finished 2.05 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. 

Race 3

HEAVENLY MAFIA made the expected natural improvement when fourth over 1200m last time. The manner in which she finished off her race that day was eye-catching. It must be noted that the horse that finished third has come out and won since. The daughter of Heavenly Blue will love the rise to 1600m and from a good draw of three, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure. 

MIGHTY MARY was unlucky not to have won her last start over 1400m on this course as she was held up for a run at the 150m mark. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces. 

ZENA‘S ACT set the pace over 1400m at Fairview last time before getting outrun late by Silvan Mistress. She finished 3.05 lengths behind the second choice in her penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.

SANSA STARK is better than her last start over 1950m on this course. She won her penultimate outing over this distance in fine style. Apprentice Varun Jodhee takes the 4kgs off her back and if putting her best foot forward, she should pose a massive threat. 

REAL STUNNER stayed on when fourth over 1800m on this course last time. He should love the rise to 2200m and from his good draw of three, he can notch up his first-career victory.

 

 

Race 6

THE US OF A was an easy winner of his last start over this C&D. He showed a good turn of foot and won with a ton in hand. The son of The United States received a seven-pound penalty for that victory. He takes a rise in class but is in a good space, and can follow up with another victory. 

FLYING FINLEY is in good form heading into this contest. He finished 3 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 3kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

TANNERON has good recent form lines to her name. She has won once, finished second twice and third once from six starts over this C&D. She is consistent and should give the males a run for their money. 

Race 7

LOVERS LANE challenged strongly over this C&D last time, but was touched off by Firingonallengines. He is having his peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. Gareth Wright is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most. 

GRAVITY finished 2.8 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. 

ROYAL LYTHAM has shown signs of needing her last two starts. She has won twice, finished second three times and third once from 14 starts over this C&D. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and she would not be a shock winner.

Race 8

HONOR OF KINGS is better than his last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He won his only attempt over this C&D. Richard Fourie steps back into the saddle and if all went well with his travels, he should be hard to peg back. 

CARRIACOU returns from a 21-week break which may have done him the world of good. He has won once and finished second once from three starts over this C&D. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and if fit, he should pose a threat. 

WINTER PEARL showed good improvement in his last start over this C&D, under 4kgs claiming apprentice Sifisokuhle Bungane. If confirming that effort, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 9

RHYDIAN stayed on nicely when third over this C&D last time. That was his first outing with the tongue-tie fitted. Luyolo Mxothwa retains the ride, and he will be mowing down the frontrunners. 

FIRINGONALLENGINES fought hard when winning his last start over this C&D. He received a two-pound penalty for that victory. He takes a rise in class, but is in a good space and should run another honest race. 

SOOTY is better than his last start when returning from a 16-week break. He has won once, finished second twice and third twice from nine starts over this C&D. On best form shown, he may be the horse to cause the upset
