Race 1

GULF OF AMERICA produced an eye-catching debut effort over 1160m on the Standside course. She took the lead at the 200m mark before getting caught late by Jingleberry. She would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1450m. Piere Strydom is booked to ride and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to beat.

JAPANESE GARDEN finished 1.2 lengths behind the top choice on debut. She would have gained from the experience and should make the natural progression.

BACK FROM WAR stayed on after racing in a prominent position over 1200m last time. She should love the rise to 1450m and from pole position, she can feature.

Race 2

CHRONICLE KING ran a good race when second on debut over this C&D. He was green in running, but stayed on nicely at the finish. It must be noted that Whispering Death has come out and won again since. He would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he can go one better.

WINGS OF ICE moved up like a winner last time before stumbling and dislodging the jockey in the latter stages. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She is carded to race on 01 May 2025 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

SCARLETT HEART’S last two starts have been decent. The daughter of Querari is coming along the right way and she can show.

Race 3

EIGHT HATS made the expected natural improvement when second over 1000m at the Vaal last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She will love the rise to 1200m and in this field, she can go one better. She is carded to race on 01 May 2025 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

GENOVEFA is better than her last start at the Vaal. Her penultimate run when second over this distance on the Vaal Classic course was encouraging. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

RACHEL WALL is an unraced daughter of Buffalo Bill Cody from the Tony Peter stable with Gavin Lerena in the saddle. She is related to two-time winner Grape Shot. If not in need of the run, she should give a good account of herself. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.

Race 4

NKWENKWEZI’S last three starts have been good. She set the pace over 1700m at the Vaal last time and tried hard all the way to the line. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won. She tries the blinkers and if the headgear has the desired effect, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

REFLECTIVE finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice on debut. She would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be competitive.

ETHICAL ran a fair race when third over 1700m last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. She is a progressive type and can finish in the placings.

Race 5

The tentative first selection is KUDZU from the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable. He won his penultimate outing over 1600m on this course. He won his only attempt over this C&D. From his good draw of three, he may be the one to side with.

TOTAL SURRENDER finished 0.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.

STAR COIN is better than his last start over 1800m. He has won once, finished second once and third once from as many starts over this distance. If finding the form of his penultimate run, he should have a say.

Race 6

CALL ME MASTER has finished fourth in his last two starts. He stayed on at the finish over 1600m last time. The 8yo gelding takes a drop in class and with luck in running, he can notch up his sixth-career victory.

AFTER HOURS is better than his last start as the jockey reported something to be amiss in running. He has won three times, finished second once and third twice from nine starts over this C&D. On previous form, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

SAIL THE SKY won a game race over 1400m on the Standside course last time. He received a three-pound penalty for that victory. He is in a good space and must be included.

Race 7

PLUS FOUR found betting support when winning his stable debut over this C&D. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He returns from a well-deserved 10- week break. He takes on much stronger, but carries a handy galloping mass of 52.5kgs and should be up to the task at hand.

PRESSONREGARDLESS finished 0.75 lengths behind NIGHT BOMBER last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.

NIGHT BOMBER showed good guts when winning his last start over 1400m on the Standside course. Muzi Yeni is likely to use his early gate speed to overcome the wide draw and he may be hard to peg back.

Race 8

QUANTUM showed good signs of a form return when second over 1600m on the Vaal Classic course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Two of her four career victories have come over this C&D. Raymond Danielson retains the ride and she can go one better.

WARNING SOUND is better than her last start as the jockey reported something to be amiss. The 15-week break would have done her the world of good. She has scope and if not in need of the run, she should improve.

RATTLE BAG has fair recent form lines to her name. Three of her five career victories have come over this C&D. Her last victory came under Piere Strydom and the combination merit obvious consideration.

Race 9

WILLOW EXPRESS’ last three starts have been fair. He stayed on when fourth over 1500m on the Vaal Classic course last time. He has won once and finished second twice from five starts over this C&D. He takes a slight drop in class and from a good draw of four, he should fight out the finish.

KING OF NUMBERS won a good race over 1400m on the Standside course last time. Malesela Katjedi is likely to use his early gate speed to overcome his awkward draw of nine and he may be hard to peg back.

SUPER AWESOME fought hard for his last victory over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course. He is in a good space and must be considered
