Winning Form selections for racing from Turffontein on Saturday 9th August where there are huge prizes available in the free to enter @Hollywoodbets Punters Challenge
Race 1
CLEVER TREVOR is the best bet on the programme. He produced a promising debut effort when second over this C&D. He understandably raced green, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of Soqrat would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be the horse to beat.
TRIP TO PEACE showed good improvement when fourth over 1400m on this course last time. He was reported to have cast a shoe in running that day. The drop in trip is a slight concern but he is a progressive type, and may have more to come.
MIDNIGHT FLYER is an unraced son of What A Winter from the Lucky Houdalakis stable with Craig Zackey in the saddle. He is related to multiple winners including Ohwhatanight and Hammies Hero. If not too green in running, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other unraced entrants.
Race 2
QUIET WINTER has produced two good efforts to date. She raced from a prominent position over 1000m at the Vaal last time and stayed on to finish fourth. She returns from a 17-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of What A Winter looks to have ability and she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
PERFECT MIRACLE is an unraced daughter of Hawwaam from the Tony Peter stable with Chad Little booked to ride. She is related to six-time winner Life On Mars. If not in need of this outing, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her and the other unraced entrants.
TOTAL ERUPTION is a daughter of Erupt from the Corne Spies yard and Apprentice Trent Mayhew takes the 1.5kgs off her back. If not too green in running, she should give a good account of herself.
Race 3
FOLLOW THE MASTER set the pace over 2400m at the Vaal last time, before getting outrun late by Gold De Grace who carried 49kgs. The son of Master Of My Fate finished second in his penultimate outing over this C&D. Jason Gates is likely to go forward and the combination should be hard to peg back.
SCARLETT HEART has fair consistent form lines to her name. The manner in which she finishes off her races suggests that she will love the rise to 2000m. She carries a handy galloping mass of 52.5kgs and would not be a shock winner.
HEROIC ACT is better than his last start over 1800m as he raced wide around the turn and had no cover. He finished 1 length behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 3.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
Race 4
This is a competitive Merit Rated 82 Handicap for the girls and caution is advised. TEO TORRIATTE is a winner of her last two starts, the latest of which was over 1800m on this course. She has finished second twice from as many starts over this C&D. She runs well for Apprentice Mxolisi Mbuto and can bring up the hat-trick.
WAGRAM finished 3.4 lengths behind the top selection last time. She is 3kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
ART NOUVEAU is in good form heading into this contest. She finished 0.4 lengths behind the top selection last time. She is 3kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around. She jumps from a good draw of two and merits healthy respect.
Race 5
STORM AHEAD should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung inwards in the final 300m. He has won once and finished third four times from six starts over this distance. If S’manga Khumalo is able to keep him on a straight line, he should win a race of this nature.
GAMER finished 2.6 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned.
INSTANT ATTRACTION is better than her last start as she took no interest. Her form prior to that outing was fair. The daughter of Canford Cliffs takes a drop in class and she would not be a shock winner.
Race 6
CLARKSON won a good race in his last start over this distance on the Inside course. He ran on strongly and drew clear of the opposition. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He is in a good space and with a bit of luck from his awkward draw of seven, he can follow up with another victory.
VIVA DE JANEIRO finished 2.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today which is enough for the tables to be turned. However, CLARKSON won easier than the official margin suggests and may still have the upper hand.
AFTER HOURS set the pace over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course last time and kept finding to give Piere Strydom his last winner as a Jockey. He has won once and finished third twice from six starts over this distance. He is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
Race 7
BIRTHRIGHT won a good race over 1600m on this course last time. He took the lead at the 300m mark and kept finding to hold all challengers at bay. He received a five-pound penalty for that victory. The son of William Longsword should have no issues with the drop to 1400m and he may be the horse to beat.
PHIL THE FLUTER followed up his maiden win with a hard-fought victory over 1450m on the Inside course. He takes another rise in class but may still be ahead of the handicapper, and he can bring up the hat-trick.
WILLOW EXPRESS finished 1.3 lengths behind PRESSONREGARDLESS last time. He is 4.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 8
MAVERICK QUEEN is better than her recent form suggests. She continues to drop in the ratings and takes a drop in class. The drop in distance should suit her well and in this type of field, she can return to winning ways.
SUNSET WARRIOR stayed on when fourth over 1200m on the Inside course last time. The son of Willow Magic has scope and should the top choice fluff her lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
WESTERN WISHES returns from a 16-week break. She finished third over 1200m at the Vaal last time. Apprentice Mxolisi Mbuto takes the 4kgs off her back and if not in need of the run, she should give a good account of herself.
Race 9
WARM WINTER NITE ran a good race when second over 1000m on this course last time. He stayed on at the finish that day but found one too good in the form of Chieftain. He has won twice and finished second once from five starts over this C&D. He is drawn on the outside of the course and can go one better.
ONE FELL SWOOP finished 0.9 lengths behind the top selection last time. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
PASSAGE OF POWER was a tad disappointing over 1400m on this course last time. He has won once and finished second twice from seven starts over this C&D. If putting his best foot forward, he should be competitive
