Real Betis

Betis came up against Fiorentina in the semi finals which was eventually settled in extra time. They won the first leg 2-1 on home turf and after Fiorentina won the return by the same scoreline Betis found an extra time goal to go through 4-3.

In the quarter finals Betis saw off Jagiellonia 3-1 on aggregate whilst in the Round of 16 they came out on top against Vitoria Guimaraes 6-2 over the course of the 2 legs. After coming through the qualifying rounds last August Betis won 3, drew 1 and lost 2 of their league phase matches to finish 15th of 36 clubs. That set up a play off with Gent which they won 3-1 on aggregate

In La Liga Betis finished sixth and hence qualified for the Europa League next season, they were 10 points shy of fifth placed Vaillareal who took the last of the Champions League spots.

Chelsea

Chelsea breezed past Djurgarden in the semi finals, winning 4-1 away from home and 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.

In the quarter finals Chelsea won 3-0 away to Legia before losing the second leg 2-1 at Stamford Bridge whilst in the Round of 16 they won home and away against FC Copenhagen for a 3-1 aggregate win. Chelsea qualified back in August and went on win all 6 of their matches in the league phase to finish 4 points clear at the top of the log.

In the EPL Chelsea's 1-0 win away to Forest in the final round on Sunday clinched a fourth place finish and Champions League football next season.

The Verdict

This competition has looked tailor made for Chelsea all season but Betis have some useful form and I expect them to be competitive.

I'm not going to get overly involved in this one but 2-3 goals in regulation time covers a number of scoreline I can envisage here whilst the price for Levi Colwill to score anytime makes some appeal after he popped up with a huge winner for Chelsea at Forest last weekend.
