Race 1

UNICORN ALERT made the expected natural improvement when third over this C&D last time. He showed good speed, but was outrun late. The son of Vercingetorix is a progressive type. He is likely to use his natural early gate speed to overcome the widest draw and he may be hard to peg back.

TAMBOURINE MAN ran on well when third over this C&D last time. He was unlucky that day as he had to be switched for running room at the 150m mark. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

OTIS THE BRAVE ran a fair race in his comeback run over 1400m on this course. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will have no issues with the drop to 1250m. He will strip a much fitter horse and with luck in running, he can show.

Race 2

IGUGULETHU ran a good race when second in his first run as a gelding. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will love the rise to 1400m. The son of Erupt meets the right field and he can shed his maiden tag.

IN THE BAG is the stable companion of the top choice. He showed good speed over 1250m last time, but tired late. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He tries the 1400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should be hard to peg back.

TOUCHDOWN showed some improvement in his last start over this C&D, despite racing wide. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

Race 3

This is a weak Open Maiden field for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is HANGING ROCK from the Brett Crawford stable. She stayed on when third over 1250m on this course last time. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. With a bit of luck from her wide draw of ten, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

F EIGHT’S last two starts have been fair. It must be noted that multiple horses from her last form line have come out and won since. She does have a wide draw to overcome, but gets the services of Richard Fourie who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

MISS LEMONADE showed good improvement in her last start over this C&D. She raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. She carries a handy galloping mass of 53.5kgs and if confirming her recent improvement, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 4

CALL TO UNITE has produced two good efforts to date. He set his own fractions up front over 1600m last time, but was outrun late by Willie John. The son of Vercingetorix should have no issues with the step up to 1800m. There isn’t much pace in this contest and he may get his own way in front once again. Grant van Niekerk retains the ride and he is the horse to beat.

FLY FUTURA showed good improvement when second over 1600m last time. He will love the extra furlong on offer. He is a progressive type and is one of the leading contenders.

JOVIAL ran a good race when third over 1600m on this course last time. He stayed on strongly at the finish that day and will be at home over the 1800m. He does try the blinkers and if switching off early, he should be involved.

Race 5

This is a competitive Maiden Plate for the girls and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is FAMILY POWER from the Greg Ennion stable. She raced from a handy position over this C&D last time, moved up well and was caught late by Enchanting Choice. The daughter of Louis The King jumps from pole position and she can go one better.

SANSA STARK was the leader turning for home over 1400m last time, but was outrun late. She is having her peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. Richard Fourie retains the ride and if seeing out the 1800m, she should pose a massive threat.

ANALYTIC finished 1.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.

Race 6

YOU WIN AGAIN was not disgraced in her post-maiden effort in Class 4 Company. She raced from a prominent position that day and stayed on at the business end. She won a game race when shedding her maiden tag in her penultimate start over this C&D. The daughter of Twice Over takes a drop-in class and from her good draw of two, she can return to winning ways.

RANI OF JHANSI won a good race when shedding her maiden tag at the second time of asking. The daughter of Vercingetorix takes a rise in class, but has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.

MIGHTY MAC stayed on when second over this C&D last time. He meets similar company this afternoon and should be the first male past the post.

Race 7

RED PALACE followed up her maiden win with an impressive victory over 1600m on this course. She set her own fractions, found another kick and was geared down in the run down to the line. She received an eight-pound penalty for that victory. The daughter of Potala Palace looks to be above average and from pole position, she can notch up the hat-trick.

SUMMER LILY ran a good race when third in the Non-Black Type Prestige Plate last time. She raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

AMONG THE CLOUDS ran a good race when second over this C&D last time. She returns from a 15-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. If fit, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 8

HEART STEALER was doing his best work late when fourth over this C&D last time. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. He gets the services of Bernard Fayd’Herbe and if not too far out of his ground turning for home, he can return to winning ways.

NUMZAAN challenged strongly in his last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He has won once and finished third twice from four starts over this C&D. Richard Fourie retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

NORDIC CHIEF won a good race when shedding his maiden tag over this C&D last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He does take a rise in class, but has scope and should be up to the task at hand.
