Race 1

WOMEN OF FAME ran a fair race in her comeback run over this C&D. She raced from a prominent position, but showed signs of needing the run and tired late. The daughter of What A Winter would have come on from the run and Richard Fourie may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

OUT THE MIST was in need of her comeback run over this C&D. Her debut effort when second over 1000m at the Vaal was encouraging. She will strip much fitter and with Gavin Lerena in the saddle, she is one of the leading contenders.

WAITFORGREENLIGHT stayed on at the finish over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time, but found one too good in the form of White Hills. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. She tries the 1160m and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she should earn another cheque for her patrons.

Race 2

PRECIPEACE produced an encouraging debut effort over this C&D. He understandably raced green, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. He found betting support that day which suggests that he was showing good work at home. The son of Canford Cliffs would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, he can win.

SECRET CHORD has finished fourth in his last three starts. He tries the tongue-tie for the first time which may do the trick. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

TWO MILES WEST finished 0.75 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.

Race 3

GAMER ran a good race on debut over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. He should have finished closer to the winner that day as he hung in the latter stages. The son of Potala Palace would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be the one to beat.

GREEN GARNET has produced two encouraging efforts to date. It must be noted that the form of his last outing has been franked. He will strip a much fitter horse and if Piere Strydom is able to switch him off early, he should pose a massive threat.

VIVA LA VICTOR showed good improvement in his last start over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course. He raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. He is a progressive type and with Richard Fourie in the saddle, he may have more to come.

Race 4

This is a weak Maiden Plate for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is ONE RELIGION from the Roy Magner stable. She showed signs of needing her last start over 1200m on the Inside course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She should have no issues with the rise to the mile and will strip much fitter. In this field, she can shed her maiden tag.

UNITED WE STAND‘S last three starts have been decent. She has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this distance. The daughter of The United States will be doing her best work at the finish.

PINK DIAMOND returns from a 26-week break. Her last two outings before the rest were good. She jumps from a good draw of three and if fit, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 5

RED BOMBER ran a good race when third over 1200m on the Inside course last time. He raced from just off the pace, moved up but was outrun late. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. He will love the extra distance on offer and from his good draw of two, he should be the one to beat.

UNZEN is better than his last start in the Grade 2 Betway Joburg Spring Challenge. It must be noted that Main Defender has come out and won again since. If finding the form of his penultimate run, he should pose a massive threat.

COURAGEOUS CAT returns from a lengthy 68-week break. He has produced two eye-catching efforts to date. He clearly has ability and if not in need of the run, he should be competitive.

Race 6

KYOMAI was not disgraced when fifth in the Grade 1 Premiers Champion Stakes last time. He returns from a 15-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. He won his maiden over this trip. If not in need of the run, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

PURE PREDATOR stayed on when fourth over 1000m on the Inside course last time. He has won twice and finished third once from four starts on this course. He will strip a much fitter horse and with luck in running, he should pose a threat.

ZINOVI was super-impressive when winning his last start over 1450m on the Inside course. He received a six-pound penalty for that victory. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 7

JULIET TANGO’S last two starts have been good. She took the lead at the 200m mark last time, but was outrun late by Silent War. She finished 0.05 lengths behind RIVER QUERARESS in her penultimate run. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She is in a good space and can notch up her third career victory.

EMIRATE GINA was doing her best work at the finish in the Grade 2 Betway Joburg Spring F & M Challenge last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Two of her four career victories have come over this distance and she merits healthy respect.

CRIMSON PRINCESS finished 0.75 lengths behind RIVER QUERARESS last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line.

Race 8

BAVARIAN BEAUTY won a game race in the Grade 1 Douglas Whyte Thekwini Stakes last time. She raced from a handy position, quickened up well and kept finding all the way to the line. She returns from a 15-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. She is the class horse in the race and with Piere Strydom in the saddle, she should take a power of beating.

ANOTHER LEVEL ran a fair race in his comeback run over 1450m on the Inside course. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. He should be the first male past the post.

INDLAMU is better than his recent form suggests. He has won once, finished second twice and third twice from six starts over this C&D. He is having his peak run today and with Richard Fourie retaining the ride, he should improve.

Race 9

DARK TIDE has consistent form lines to his credit. He showed good speed over 1200m last time, but tired late. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He has won once and finished third twice from seven starts on this course. If putting his best foot forward, he can return to winning ways.

HAPPY ANALIA ran a fair race over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time. She finished 0.1 lengths behind the top choice, three runs ago. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.

WHAT A TIGER has decent recent form lines to his credit. He returns from KZN and he will be mowing down the frontrunners in the run down to the line
