Palmeiras 1.37/1 Draw 2/1 Botafogo 9/4

Palmerias topped Group A ahead of Inter Miami on goal difference with Porto surprise casualties in third alongside Al Ahly. Palmeiras are unbeaten so far, they started with a 0-0 draw against Porto before seeing off Al Ahly 2-0 thanks to a second half own goal followed by a strike from Flaco Lopez. Heading into the final group match against Miami a point would be enough to see both sides advance and the draw was trading very short. However Miami hadn't read the script as they went into a 2-0 lead but late goals from Paulinho and Mauricio saw the game finish 2-2.

Botafogo finished as runners up to PSG in Group B, edging out Atletico Madrid for second spot after all 3 teams finished with 6 points and Seattle Sounders were the also rans. Goals from Jair and Igor Jesus helped them start with a 2-1 win over Seattle and next up another Igor Jesus goal delivered a surprise 1-0 win over PSG. They lost their final group match to a solitary goal from Atletico Madrid late on but a last 16 spot was secure.

The Verdict:

This is an all Brazilian clash and domestically Palmeiras are 4 points better off than Botafogo in the standings after 11 league games which includes a 0-0 stalemate when the teams met at the end of March. I can see this also being tight and will take my chances with no more than a single goal.

Benfica 24/10 Draw 24/10 Chelsea 11/10

Benfica ended up topping Group C, 1 point clear of Bayern Munich with Boca Junios a distant third and Auckland City were fourth. They had to come from 2-0 down to snatch a 2-2 draw with Boca first up and followed up with a routine 6-0 demolition of Auckland City. Qualification for the last 16 was secured in the final group match against a Bayern Munich side who were already through to the last 16 as an early goal from Andreas Schjelderup saw them edge the contest 1-0.

Chelsea were runners up to Flamengo in Group D. It wasn't all plain sailing with a 2-1 defeat to the group winners in their second outing coming with side of a 2-0 win over Los Angeles and most recently a 3-0 victory over Esperance. Pedro Neto scored in Chelsea's first 2 matches and new signing Liam Delap opened his account in the final group game.

The Verdict:

Chelsea had some excuse for their defeat to Flamengo as they had Jackson sent off and other than that they have done little wrong. Benfica have shrugged off a poor start against Boca and remain unbeaten so it could be tight and 2-3 goals in regulation time covers a multitude of scorelines I can envisage here
