Race 1 

MATCHA MINT produced a promising debut effort over 1160m on the Standside course. She lost a length leaving the start, understandably raced green but the manner in which she stayed on was encouraging. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to beat.

BRIGHT AND BRAZEN took on winners in the Listed Wilgerbosdrift Ruffian Stakes last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second has come out and won since. The daughter of Erupt has scope and she may be the one to fill the exacta spot.

BACK FROM WAR is better than her last start as she was reported to have choked up. If finding the form of her penultimate run, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 2

Seven of the nine runners in this contest are first timers and the betting market will be the best guide with regards to their chances. GEOSTORM from the Tony Peter stable is a son of Buffalo Bill Cody and Gavin Lerena is booked to ride. He is related to multiple winners including Freed From Desire and City By The Sea. If not in need of the run, he should start his career on a positive note.

VIPINGO has run two fair races to date. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight has scope and with experience on her side, she should be competitive.

PRINCESS KEIRA had excuses in her last start over 1160m on the Standside course. She took her place in the Listed Wilgerbosdrift Ruffian Stakes in her penultimate run. The daughter of One World can finish in the placings.

Race 3

CONCORDIA showed the natural improvement when fourth over 1160m on the Standside course last time. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day suggests that she will love the rise to 1450m. She is a progressive type and from her good draw of three, she may have more to come.

WINDS OF GRACE’S last three starts with the tongue-tie fitted have been fair. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

ON A JET PLANE’S last start is best ignored as she was reported to be not striding out. She finished second in her penultimate run over this C&D. She is carded to race on 17 April 2025 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

Race 4

CURTISS CONDOR was all at sea in the early stages of his debut effort over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course. However, the manner in which he finished off his race was encouraging. The son of Lancaster Bomber would have gained from the experience and will love the rise to 1450m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he may be the one to beat.

MIGHTY EAGLE has run two fair races to date. It must be noted that Whispering Death has come out and won again since. Gavin Lerena steps back into the saddle and he is one of the leading contenders.

MISS TAKES stayed on when fifth over 1000m at the Vaal last time. The son of The United States should enjoy the extra distance on offer and if this run has not come too soon, he can show.

Race 5

SOLDIER’S EYE was running on when second over this C&D last time. The daughter of Rabada meets a similar line-up this afternoon. If not too far out of her ground turning for home, she can go one better.

MISS HANNIGAN is better than her last start in the Listed Wilgerbosdrift Acacia Stakes. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. On her previous form, she should pose a threat.

TOO LATE MY MATE stayed on when third over this distance on the Standside course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. If jumping on terms, she should be competitive.

 

 

Race 6

SECRET RECIPE ran on powerfully when winning her last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. If not in need of the run, she can follow up with another victory.

WAGRAM was an easy winner when shedding her maiden tag over this C&D. She takes on stronger, but has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.

TANA MAREE won her last start over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course with ease. The daughter of Trippi should have no issues with the rise to 1600m and she cannot be discounted.

Race 7

CARNELO set the pace over 1600m on this course last time, before getting outrun late. He drops in class and jumps from pole position. Piere Strydom is booked to ride and if seeing out the 2000m, he may be hard to peg back.

STORM AHEAD stayed on when fourth over 1800m on the Standside course last time. He finished third in his only attempt over this C&D. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, he can pose a threat.

GAMER finished 0.95 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.

Race 8

BOSUM BUDDY stayed on when third in the Non-Black Type Mythical Flight Sprint last time. She has won once and finished third twice from as many starts over this distance. She will be running on and can return to winning ways.

HALCYON has shown signs of needing his last two starts over 1000m. The son of Gimmethegreenlight will enjoy the rise to 1200m and he will be cherry-ripe. He is one of the leading contenders.

HEAVYLIESTHECROWN was an easy winner on debut over this C&D. She set the pace, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. The daughter of Rafeef takes on stronger, but she could be anything and can remain unbeaten.

Race 9

VITELLIUS was in need of his comeback run over this C&D, against stronger company. He would have come on from the outing and should strip much fitter. The son of Pomodoro takes a drop in class and with Gavin Lerena in the saddle, he may be the one to side with.

NAZARE ran a fair race when fourth over 1160m before the break. He has won twice and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. If not in need of the run, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

KOTINOS is better than his last start as he was reported to be not striding out. He has finished third in all three of his efforts over this C&D. On his previous form, he cannot be ignored
