Novak Djokovic 8/15

The big question on everyone’s lips is can Novak Djokovic be beaten? He starts the tournament as the number 2 seed but that is as a result of missing major tournaments through no fault of his own and certainly not an indicator of form.

He has won the last 2 Grand Slams namely the Australian and French Opens and the French open win was particularly impressive as clay is historically his weakest surface.

By contrast he has an incredible record on grass and has won his last 4 Wimbledon’s and has 7 titles in total.

Djokovic is a short price for the win but justifiably so.

Carlos Alcaraz 3/1

Alcaraz has a 1-1 career record with Djokovic and the pair met in the French Open where Alcaraz started a firm favourite. Djokovic won fairly comfortably though and to beat him on grass is going to be a tough ask.

He also has a tough quarter to get through.

On the plus side Alcaraz won his 1st Grass tournament the Queens Club Championship last week.

Jannik Sinner 15/1

Sinner may be the 8th seed but he is 3rd in the betting albeit well behind the top 2 in the odds market. The Italian hasn’t been in the greatest form of late and went out on a walkover when a set down in the Halle Open.

The bookies are probably remember his 5 set loss to Djokovic in last years quarters where we led 2 set to nil and he also looks to have an easy quarter and has swerved the big guns.

Daniil Medvedev 17/1

The 3rd seed could not play Wimbledon in 2022 due to being Russian but fortunately that ban has been lifted.

Medvedev was the top seed in the Halle Open and after being pushed hard in the round of 32 and 16 he went down in straights sets in his quarterfinal.

A big negative against Medvedev is he has not made it past the 4th round a feat he achieved in 2021.

Selected others who could surprise

Alexander Zverev 28/1

Sebastian Korda 30/1

Taylor Fritz 33/1

Holger Rune 33/1

Alex de Minaur 55/1

I have been impressed by Rune of late especially his showing in the French Open. He was the 2nd seed at Queens though and was beaten in the semi-final by de Minaur who has a very tough quarter including Rune, Zverev and Alcaraz.

VERDICT

I can’t make a solid enough case for anyone to beat Djokovic but at the same time want to take an interest at a bigger price.

Korda looked very good at Queens before running into a red hot Alcaraz in his semi-final where he went down 6-3, 6-4. He is 2nd in the betting at 5/1 to win this quarter and with Medvedev (who I am keen to oppose) the favourite I am going to back him to win what looks like one of the easiest quarters.

Suggested Bet: Quarter 2 Winner – Sebastian Korda at 5/1
