Our Fifa Club World Cup focus on Thursday comes from Group A where Palmeiras take on Al-Ahly and Inter Miami take on FC Porto.

The 00:00 kick off on Thursday is the game between Pachuca and RB Salzburg in Group H and at 03:00 its Al Ain v Juventus in Group G which completes the opening round of matches for all the sides.

 

After that it's the second round of matches in Group A which has yet to provide a goal.

 

 

Palmeiras 0.62/1 Draw 29/10 Al-Ahly 9/2

 

Palmeiras came up against FC Porto in their opening match last Sunday which finished without a goal. They registered 5 shots on target to Porto's 3 and shaded the possession stats but couldn't find a breakthrough despite hitting the woodwork and having a shot cleared off the line.

 

Also on Sunday Al Ahly played out their 0-0 stalemate with Inter Miami (in Miami) but there were chances for both sides and Al Ahly's Mahmoud Trezeguet missed a penalty just before half time with his effort saved by the Miami keeper.

 

Both of these sides were unfortunate not to have won their opening matches but defeat here could spell disaster in terms of their hopes of reaching the knockout rounds. Palmeiras probably took on a much stronger side that Al-Ahly did and I'll look to Raphael Veiga to pop up with a goal for them at anytime.

Inter Miami 38/10 Draw 32/10 FC Porto 0.63/1

 

Goalkeeper Utsari was the Miami hero in their 0-0 draw with Al-Ahly. He picked up the MoM award with a series of fine saves and after going close in the first half Messi then hit the bar for Miami late on but nobody could find a winner.

 

Porto had to defend well and ride their luck in their 0-0 draw with Palmeriras and were grateful to reserve goalkeeper Ramos for the clean sheet.

 

In my book Porto probably have the more scope for improvement on the respective displays in the opening round of matches and I will look to their target man Samu Aghehowa (also listed as Samuel Omorodian with some bookmakers) to find the net any time for favourite backers.
