BettingDiaryThe Palmetto Championship at Congaree takes the place of the Canadian Open this week and a strong field has lined up to test themselves ahead of the US Open.

Congaree plays to a par 71 and it is certainly a course where length should be a factor. The fairways are wide, but if you are spraying things around you can get into trouble with plenty of hazards and sand off the fairways.

As it is the first PGA played at this course we are shooting a bit in the dark on this one. Looking at the betting boards we have 2 proven major winners in Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka currently priced at 8/1 with Tyrrell Hatton 14/1, Matt Fitzpatrick 15/1 and you can get 22/1 and better the balance.

Some players compete hard going into a major while others are just looking to tune their game and this is probably a week to take a cautious approach and perhaps also look for an outsider who can take advantage of any of the top pros focus shifting to the US Open.

Dustin Johnson 8/1

Brooks Koepka 8/1

Tyrrell Hatton 14/1

Matt Fitzpatrick 15/1

Sungjae Im 22/1

Tommy Fleetwood 25/1

Harris English 28/1

35/1 and better the balance, prices correct at the time of posting but are subject to change

SUGGESTED BETS:

Ian Poulter each way at 35/1

Poulter’s game appears to be coming to the boil nicely and he finished 3rd in his last start at the Colonial. He is well known as a good sand player and that could be useful on this layout.

Brandt Snedeker each way at 55/1

Snedeker has been in some good form of late and although he didn’t feature at the Colonial prior to that he had 3 Top 20’s in succession and has also had a Top 10 in his last 6 starts. Another good scrambler I am expecting him to be course suited this week.

Kevin Kisner each way at 45/1

Kisner is a local and should relish conditions on a course he will know better than most of the other players. He finished 40th at the Colonial in his last start, but did fade a bit over the weekend and the form he showed there was promising given he was coming off a succession of missed cuts. With his game coming to hand this could be just the venue for him to get back onto the top page of the leader board.

Wilco Nienaber each way at 150/1

Nienaber’s game went off the boil for a while, but he did manage a victory on home soil a few weeks back. This man is seriously long off the tee and has the game to be one of the best in the world, at a 150/1 I am going to wager that his march to the top starts now.
