The golf world turns its attention to Augusta National this week as the best players on the planet battle it out for the 89th Masters Championship. In this preview, we take a look at the tournament from a betting perspective and suggest a few potential wagers.
The Course
One of the most iconic courses in the world, Augusta National will once again challenge the very best. The course has been lengthened over the years, favouring long hitters. A key to success at Augusta is precision with approach shots — landing the ball in the right part of the green is crucial, as the surfaces are fast and undulating.
Whoever can get their putter working early will be in contention and those that don’t can quickly fall away. Augusta features four challenging par-3 holes where leads can shift quickly, once again highlighting the importance of accurate iron play.
The par-72 course now measures 7,510 yards (approximately 6,870 metres).

Selections
Rory McIlroy at 7.50
The Masters remains the one major that has eluded Rory McIlroy, but judging by his performances over the last decade, it's only a matter of time until that is rectified. In his last ten Masters appearances, McIlroy has finished in the top five four times, the top ten twice, and the top 25 on two more occasions. He's also in strong form this season, having already secured two wins and finishing no worse than 17th in any start.
Suggested bet: Rory McIlroy each-way at 7.50.
Cameron Smith at 61.00
Cameron Smith has consistently performed well at Augusta, recording three top-five finishes and two additional top-tens over the past seven years. His best showing came in 2020, where he was runner-up to Dustin Johnson. Smith has proven he can win on the big stage, having captured the Open Championship in 2022.
Suggested bet: Smith each-way at 61.00 and a Top 10 finish at 5.50
Joaquin Niemann at 29.00
Niemann enters the Masters with red-hot form on the LIV Tour, having already claimed two victories this season. He’s looking to convert that success into major contention. In his last two Masters appearances, Niemann has finished in the top 25, and he’ll be aiming to break into the top five and contend for the win this time around.
Suggested bet: Niemann each way at 29.00
Patrick Reed at 81.00
At the risk of loading my selections with too many LIV golfers I am putting up Patrick Reed a man who thrives when the crowd portray him as the bad boy. Reed has a great Masters record and has 5 top 15’s including a win and a 4th place finish in the last 7 years. He has been in decent nick on the LIV Tour with a top 10 and a runner up finish in his last 2 starts.
Suggested bet: Reed each-way at 81.00
