BettingDiaryRound 5 of the Formula 1 season takes place in Monaco this weekend and we take a look at the race from a betting angle.

Lewis Hamilton has extended his lead at the top of the Drivers Standings and he has 90 points, 14 points ahead of Max Verstappen and a massive 47 ahead of his Mercedes teammate, Bottas.

Mercedes are also well clear of Red Bull in the Drivers Championship with a 29 point lead.

HAMILTON WINS AGAIN IN SPAIN

Lewis Hamilton claimed pole position and drove to victory in Spain two weeks ago, Max Verstappen was runner-up with Bottas in 3rd and Hamilton and Verstappen have now shared the top 2 spots on the podium in all 4 Grand Prix’s this season.

There was no Monaco Grand Prix in 2020 due to COVID-19 and there is plenty of excitement in its return to the calendar. Lewis Hamilton won in 2019 and he also won in 2016 and way back in 2008.

Starting at the front of the grid is crucial in Monaco as overtaking is very tough so the race for pole position promises to be an exciting one.

Suggested Bet: Lewis Hamilton to win outright at 15/10

Given that Hamilton and Verstappen are dominating the season so far, the World Sports Betting money back in free bets promotion – see promo details below - should your selection run second is very attractive. Verstappen looks the only rider capable of challenging Hamilton, but Hamilton seems to be improving as the season goes on and he was pole position here in 2019, something I expect him to do again before kicking on to win the race.

Additional Bet: Charles Leclerc Podium at 15/10

This will be for a smaller stake, but I was impressed with Leclerc running 4th in Spain and he has strung some consistent results together and I am hoping Monaco is the race that sees him crack it onto the podium. He certainly showed promise in Thursdays practise.
