BettingDiaryThe US Masters is just one week away and we warm up with the Houston Open taking place at the Memorial Park Course in Houston.

The Memorial Park course hosted this Tournament as far back as 1947, but its most recent hosting was 1963 so there is absolutely no course form to go on as far this event goes.

It plays to a par 72 with 5 par 3’s and 5 par 5’s. The rough is reportedly up so finding the fairway off the tee will be important as will good iron shots into large greens.

Dustin Johnson returns from his COVID-19 quarantine and is the 17/2 favourite with Tyrrell Hatton 18/1 and you can get 22/1 and better the balance. I am going to look to beat Johnson this week as I feel his focus will be on Augusta and the US Masters which takes place a week from now.

Dustin Johnson 17/2

Tyrrell Hatton 18/1

Tony Finau 22/1

Hideki Matsuyama 22/1

Scottie Scheffler 24/1

Russell Henley 24/1

25/1 and better the balance, prices correct at the time of posting but are subject to change

Suggested Bets:

Tony Finau each way at 22/1

Finau impressed in his last start at Sherwood where he finished T11 and his iron shots were particularly impressive. Finau is a player who doesn’t get over the line often enough, but it isn’t the strongest field and the course should suit him.

Doc Redman each way at 50/1

Redman caught the eye last week in what was admittedly a weaker field. He is proving to be one of the most consistent players this season and is known as a good ball striker so should be course suited.

Viktor Hovland each way at 28/1

Hovland’s form has dipped a bit of late, but prior to last week’s 47th place finish he did have 3 consecutive Top 15’s and he has been a picture of consistency this season. He does well on par 5’s and will be suited by the fact that there are 5 on this course.

Zach Johnson each way at 50/1

Johnson has been consistent with 3 consecutive Top 25 finishes and he is coming off a short break. Not the longest off the tee he is very accurate and will be keen for a good performance ahead of the Masters, an event he has won before.
