Race 1

SEVENTEEN AGAIN produced a promising debut effort when second over this C&D. She jumped awkwardly when leaving the start, but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The daughter of Erupt found betting support that day which suggests that she was showing good work at home. She would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she may be the one to beat.

GOLD AGENT finished 2.25 lengths behind the top choice on debut. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.

BELLISSIVAR has been a tad disappointing in her last two starts. Her effort when second over this C&D, three runs ago was eye-catching. If finding the form of that race, she should be involved at the finish.

Race 2

BASKED IN GLORY is an unraced daughter of Vercingetorix from the Stuart Pettigrew stable with Gavin Lerena booked to ride. She is related to multiple winners including Mighty High and Gobsmacked. If not in need of this outing, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her and the other first timers.

KOMATI RIVER hails from the Tony Peter yard and Calvin Habib does duty. She is a daughter of Vercingetorix and is related to seven-time winner Vistula. If not too green in running, she should give a good account of herself.

ONE PARTY may be the first raced runner past the post. She ran a decent race on debut over 1160m at Turffontein. She would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be competitive.

Race 3

CHILI BOMB is an unraced son of Lancaster Bomber from the Paul Matchett stable with Gavin Lerena in the saddle. He is related to three-time winner Sweet Pepper. If not in need of this outing, he can start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other unraced entrants.

SEA WOLF is a son of Vercingetorix from the Tony Peter yard with Calvin Habib up. He is related to four-time winner Vernichey. If not too green in running, he should give a good account of himself.

VALIEVA is better than her last start over 1000m on this course. Her two previous outings when second on the Classic course were encouraging. The daughter of Var should have no issues with the rise to 1200m and she may be the first raced runner past the post.

Race 4

GREEN LIGHTNING has produced two good efforts to date. She showed pace over this C&D last time, but found one too good in the form of Just The Two Of Us. The daughter of Potala Palace carries a handy galloping mass of 54.5kgs and she should give the males a run for their money.

WHAT A LUCY is lightly raced with good form lines to her credit. She showed pace over 1160m last time, but was outrun late. The daughter of What A Winter will be at peak fitness and she can go one better.

JOHNNY APPLESEED is better than his debut effort suggests as the bit was pulled through his mouth. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He would have come on from the outing and should make the natural improvement.

Race 5

QUICK TRIP showed good speed when winning her last start over this distance at Turffontein. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She is in a good space and can follow up with another victory.

KINSHIN SHA finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.

LONGSWORD is better than his last start in the Listed Secretariat Stakes. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. His previous two starts were good. He takes a drop in class and must be included in all bets.

Race 6

LEESON is better than his last start over 2400m as he raced wide around the turn. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He won his only attempt over this C&D. Craig Zackey is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

LAUGHING WILLIAM stayed on when fourth over 1400m on this course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and he must be included in all bets.

PUTINS PROMISE was touched off in his last start over 1400m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He is in a good space and merits obvious inclusion.

Race 7

BRAVE VIKING showed good signs of a form return in his last start over 1450m on the Turffontein Inside course. He ran on strongly at the finish that day but found one too good in the form of Money Heist. He has won once, finished second once and third once from four starts over this distance. He meets a similar line-up this afternoon and can go one better.

ANOTHER LEVEL finished 2.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

WYZEACT took on a competitive field in his last start. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He is carded to race on 30 May 2024 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.

Race 8

WALLED GARDEN has shown good improvement in his last two starts. He finished 1.1 lengths behind MUNCHKIN in his penultimate effort. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. Muzi Yeni is booked to ride and he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

MUNCHKIN has good consistent form lines to his credit. He was running on when second over 1000m on this course last time. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

PRICELESS should have finished closer to the winner last time as she clipped heels at the 600m mark. She takes a slight drop in class and with luck in running, she should give the males a run for their money
