Race 1

It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. She gets the services of Savanna Valjalo who takes 1.5kgs off her back. She can go one better in this field.

THE NAVY LARK has finished fourth in her last four starts. She should have no issues with the drop to 1000m and with the services of Chamu Mabaya, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

TRIP TO STATES ran a fair race over 1160m at Turffontein last time. He will be doing his best work late and may be the first male past the post.

Race 2

RODEO DRIVE produced an eye-catching comeback run over 1160m at Turffontein. She should have won that day as she hung in the final 200m. The daughter of The United States would have come on from the run and she should strip much fitter. She should have no issues with the drop to 1000m and may be the one to beat.

VALIEVA tried hard when second in her last start over this distance on the Classic course. The daughter of Var is a progressive type and she is one of the leading contenders.

JILTED ran a fair race on debut over 1160m at Turffontein. Stars And Bra’s has come out and finished third in a Grade 3 since. The daughter of Fire Away would have gained from the experience and she should make the natural improvement.

Race 3

WOLF MOUNTAIN is the best bet on the programme. He produced a promising debut effort over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course. He raced from just off the pace and tried hard all the way to the line. The son of Buffalo Bill Cody would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should take a power of beating.

FRENCH BOLT was doing his best work late when fourth on debut over this distance on the Classic course. He would have gained from the experience and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

HOWZIT BOET finished 7.75 lengths behind the top choice on debut. He was green in running that day and would have come on from the run. There should be improvement to come from the son of Willow Magic.

Race 4

GREEN LIGHTNING ran an encouraging race on debut over this distance on the Classic course. She raced from just off the pace and stayed on at the finish. The daughter of Potala Palace would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she may be the one to side with.

DRAGON DRAGON was a beaten odds-on favourite in her last start over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course. The daughter of Twice Over will enjoy the drop to 1000m and she is one of the leading contenders.

JUST THE TWO OF US showed good improvement when second in her last start over this distance on the Classic course. The slight concern is that it is a weak form line. She is a progressive type and may have more to come.

Race 5

MUNCHKIN won his last start over this distance on the Classic course, easier than the official margin suggests. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this distance. He meets a similar line-up this afternoon and can follow up with another victory.

PENDRAGON finished 0.25 lengths behind the top selection last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.

LULU’S BOY showed good speed over this C&D in a work riders race last time but was outrun late. Three of his five career victories have come on this course. His last victory came under Denis Schwarz and the combination should be hard to peg back at the finish.

Race 6

ROYAL MAZARIN has good recent form lines to his credit. He ran on from last when second over 1800m last time. He has won once, finished second once and third once from six starts over this C&D. Muzi Yeni is likely to adopt the same tactics from his wide draw of 11 and he will be mowing down the frontrunners.

TO THE RESCUE stayed on when third over this distance at Turffontein last time. He finished 2.9 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.

LEESON’S last three starts have been good. He has won twice and finished second once from four starts on this course. He is in a good space and merits obvious inclusion.

Race 7

FUSHIMI INARI’S last two starts over further have been fair. He has won once and finished second twice from four starts on this course. He finished second in his only attempt over this distance. He continues to drop in the ratings and Gavin Lerena may be able to get the best out of him where it matters most.

LEAO ALADO won a good race over 1600m on the Classic course last time. He received a three-pound penalty for that victory. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

DARK SILVER won a good race when shedding his maiden tag over 2000m on the Classic course. The son of Heavenly Blue takes on stronger, but he has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.

Race 8

REDCHERRY LANE won a good race on debut over 1200m on this course. She showed a good turn of foot and drew off in the closing stages. The daughter of Vercingetorix will love the rise to 1400m. She does take on stronger, but could be anything and can remain unbeaten.

GRAPE SHOT rallied late when winning her last start over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She takes a slight drop in class and should give the males a run for their money.

PUTINS PROMISE won a good race in his last start over 1450m on the Classic course. Two of his six career victories have come on this course. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride and he should go close
