Race 1
THE MERCIFUL showed good improvement in his last start after 96 weeks off the track. He raced from a handy position and stayed on to finish third. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He will strip a much fitter horse and from pole position, he may be the one to side with in this field.
PANNING GOLD is much better than his last start suggests. He has finished second once and third once from as many starts on this course. He will be at peak fitness and on his previous form, he should pose a threat.
YOJIMBO showed improvement in his last outing over 1700m. He returns from a 16-week break, during which time he was gelded. If not in need of the run, he should give a good account of himself.
Race 2
GUY ALEXANDER was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start. He set the pace and fought hard to hold American Rebel at bay. The 6yo horse received a four-pound penalty for that victory. He meets a similar line-up this afternoon and can follow up with another victory.
CALLABURN finished 3 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
ZOOMBOMBER won a good race over 1600m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack, last week Wednesday. If this run has not come too soon, he is capable of winning a race of this nature.
Race 3
BIRTHRIGHT took on stronger in his last start over 1750m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He has finished second once and third once from as many starts on this course. He will be at peak fitness and may be hard to peg back.
DJ JUNIOR was running on when second over 1600m on this course last time. He meets similar opposition this afternoon and with Gavin Lerena in the saddle, he should pose a threat.
EIGER SANCTION is a winner of his last three starts. He has won twice, finished second once and third once from six starts on this course. He is carded to race on 17 October 2024 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 4
PACIFIC followed up his maiden victory with a creditable fourth-place finish over this distance at the Vaal. The gelding seems to have done the trick. He takes a drop in class and may be the one to side with.
TIBETAN VOYAGE finished 0.05 lengths behind SMELTING last time. She is 5.5kgs better off at the weights today which is enough for the tables to be turned. If confirming her recent improvement, she should be the first female past the winning post.
TWICE AS WILD finished 0.1 lengths behind SMELTING in the race referred to above. She is also 5.5kgs better off at the weights and should turn the form around.
Race 5
FENNEC FOX has taken on male company in her last two starts. The daughter of Querari is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D. She is back against her own sex and takes a slight drop in class. If putting her best foot forward, she can win a race of this nature.
ARILENA showed good speed when winning her last start over 1200m at the Vaal. She won her only attempt over this distance. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
KIA KAHA is better than her last start as she was reported to be not striding out. She returns from a 12-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. If not in need of the run, she should give a good account of herself.
Race 6
KINDRED HEART showed some signs of needing her comeback run over 1200m at the Vaal. She has won once and finished third once from three starts over this distance. The daughter of Erupt will strip much fitter and on best form shown, she can win a race of this nature.
VALIEVA raced in the Grade 2 World Pool With Gold Circle Debutante last time. She was an easy winner when shedding her maiden tag over 1200m at the Vaal, in her penultimate run. If not in need of this outing, she should give a good account of herself.
BOSUM BUDDY stayed on when third in her last start over 1200m on this course. The daughter of Canford Cliffs should have no issues with the drop to 1000m and she must be included in all bets.
Race 7
DUENNA fought hard when winning her last start over this C&D. She returns from a well-deserved 10-week break which would have done her the world of good. She has won twice and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. She has won under 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Trent Mayhew previously and is the horse to beat.
ANDI‘S GIRL has finished second in her last three starts. She set the pace over this C&D last time before getting touched off by Fiery Pegasus. She is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
DONNA MO should have finished closer in the Grade 3 TAB Sea Cottage Stakes as she raced wide around the turn and had to be switched for running room at the 300m mark. She may be at her best over further but she has the class to be competitive.
Race 8
SAY IT LOUD may have needed her last start over 1200m on this course. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight was super-impressive when winning on debut over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. She should have no issues with the rise to 1450m and may be the one to beat.
QUEEN OF LOVE was an easy winner when shedding her maiden tag over 1400m on the Standside course. She returns from a 21-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. If not in need of this outing, she should give a good account of herself.
SHAMPIMPI was outrun late when third over 1600m on the Vaal Classic course last time. If confirming her recent improvement, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 9
TWOSTEP QUEEN has good recent form lines to her credit. She raced from a handy position over 1600m last time, but was caught late by Play With Fire. The daughter of Potala Palace won her maiden over this C&D. Raymond Danielson is likely to use her early gate speed to overcome her awkward draw and she will be hard to peg back.
PALACE DANCER followed up her maiden victory with a good third-place finish over 1200m at the Vaal. The daughter of Potala Palace should have no issues with the rise to 1450m and she is one of the leading contenders.
COURAGEOUS has decent recent form lines to her credit. She credit. She has won once, finished second once and third twice from seven starts over this distance. She takes a drop back in class and cannot be ignored
