Race 1

VIBE SA produced a good first run for the Tony Peter stable. He ran on well to finish second behind So Seductive. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. The son of Just As Well would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. The blinkers have been re-fitted and he can go one better.

HALCYON produced a promising debut effort over this C&D. He raced from just off the pace and stayed on at the finish. The son of Gimmethegreenlight would have gained from the experience and with Gavin Lerena in the saddle, he should pose a threat.

SUMMER SHADE showed good improvement over 1500m in a work riders race last time. He should have no issues with the drop to 1160m and with the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Nirvan Nastili, he should earn another cheque.

Race 2

WHAT A LUCY produced an encouraging comeback run over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course. She showed good speed and was reported to be distressed post-race. The daughter of What A Winter would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. She meets the right field and may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

INTRO was a tad disappointing in her last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. If finding the form of her penultimate run, she should be involved at the finish.

ICE CAP ran a fair race in her last start over 1400m at the Vaal. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. Piere Strydom may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

Race 3

VISIONOFPEACE was a tad disappointing in her last start over 1200m on the Inside course. She won a game race on debut over 1160m on this course. The daughter of Visionaire will love the rise to 1400m. She would have strengthened up during her time off the track and from her good draw of three, she can return to winning ways.

VJ’S ANGEL was a beaten odds-on favourite in her last start over 1160m on this course. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight should love the rise to 1400m. She is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.

TOO LATE MY MATE stayed on when fourth over 1600m last time. She finished 1 length behind the top choice on debut. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.

Race 4

DON’T CRY FOR ME showed good speed and guts when winning his maiden at the second time of asking. He is a progressive type and if seeing out the 1400m, he can follow up with another victory.

TRUTH was super-impressive when winning on debut over 1160m on this course. He showed good speed, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He does take on stronger, but could be anything and can remain unbeaten.

MOONLIGHT TRADER is better than his last start over 1600m. He won a good race when shedding his maiden tag over this distance at the Vaal. The son of Erupt jumps from a good draw of three and can finish in the placings.

Race 5

ZIP CODE made the expected natural improvement when second in his last start over 1450m on the Inside course. He set the pace that day, but was outrun by Spring Tradition. The son of Global View is a progressive type and he can go one better.

LONELY AS A CLOUD returns from a 12-week break, during which time he was gelded. It must be noted that the form of his last race has worked out well. He may have good improvement to come.

TOP SEED is an unraced son of Legislate from the Mike de Kock stable with Craig Zackey in the saddle. If not in need of this outing, he should give a good account of himself. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.

Race 6

DOUGLAS DRAGON has shown good improvement in his last two starts with the blinkers fitted. He challenged strongly in his last start, but found one too good in the form of Dark Silver. Piere Strydom retains the ride and he can go one better.

STREWN SKY’S last three starts have been good. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He should have no issues with the rise in distance and is one of the leading contenders.

TAXHAVEN was disappointing in his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. His penultimate run when 3 lengths behind Purple Pitcher in the Grade 1 TAB SA Derby catches the eye. If finding the form of that race, he should be involved at the finish.

Race 7

DYNAMIC LASS showed good improvement in her last start over 1600m on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that Frances Ethel has come out and won multiple feature races since. If not in need of this outing, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

ANGEL OF MY HEART ran a decent race in her last start over 1700m at the Vaal. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she will love the rise to 2000m. She has scope and may be the one to fill the exacta spot.

KISS OF FIRE found one too good in the form of Volare E Mambo last time. The daughter of Erupt will enjoy the rise to 2000m and it is encouraging that Gavin Lerena is booked to ride.

Race 8

VIVA BRAZIL lacked extra late in the Grade 1 TAB SA Derby last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He takes a drop back in class today. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, he can notch up his fourth-career victory.

TWENTY DRACHMA’S is better than his last start. He has won twice and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. On his previous form, he should go close to winning.

UNITED COUNCIL is better than his last start in the Listed TAB Gold Bowl. He has won twice and finished third once from seven starts on this course. If putting his best foot forward, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 9

THUNDERSTRUCK is the best bet on the programme. He was given a peach of a ride when winning the Grade 1 Jonsson Workwear Computaform Sprint last time. The son of Rafeef is the class horse in this race and he should take a power of beating.

RULERSHIP is better than his last start over 1160m. He has won twice and finished third twice from as many starts over this C&D. He shows good speed in his races and may be the one to fill the exacta spot.

ZIYASHA finished 3.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 4kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. The son of Rafeef can earn another cheque for his patrons.

Race 10

HALBERDIER was doing his best work late when third over 1000m last time. He won a good race in his penultimate start over 1160m on this course. The son of New Predator takes a drop in class and he may be the one to side with.

RUN FOR COVER was an easy winner of his last start over 1450m on the Inside course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He takes on stronger, but is in a good space and should give a good account of himself.

WILLOW EXPRESS finished 2 lengths behind OPEN HIGHWAY last time. He is 3kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned
