Race 1
DAWN SURPRISE was green around the turn, shifted away from the crop but stayed on to finish second behind Patants Heir. The daughter of Elusive Fort is a progressive type and will love the return to the straight course. She has plenty of scope and can shed her maiden tag.
ONE SMART COOKIE moved up well in her last start over 1400m, but was caught late. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. S’manga Khumalo is booked to ride and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
NELLIE MELBA has been costly to follow in her last two starts. She may not have seen out the 1400m last time. The daughter of Oratorio will enjoy the drop back to 1200m. She tries the blinkers for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand.
Race 2
PLINIAN cost himself winning last time as he hung in the closing stages. He showed good speed before getting caught late. The son of Erupt has finished second twice from as many starts over this C&D. He will strip a much fitter horse and if keeping on a straight line, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
TRIPPI T ran a good race when second in his comeback run over this distance on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack last time. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. He is one of the leading contenders.
TEATIME TIPPLE finished 0.65 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result. He tries the blinkers for the first time which should keep his mind on the task at hand.
Race 3
TOMYRIS showed good improvement when fifth in her last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Greyville. She lost a length leaving the start, but rallied late. The daughter of Vercingetorix is a progressive type and if getting away to a clean start, she may be the one to beat.
QUESTO E QUELLO has shown improvement in each of her outings to date. The blinkers seem to have done the trick. With luck in running, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
KYLIE’S ANGEL raced from a handy position over 1200m last time and stayed on to finish fourth. She is a progressive type and can earn another cheque for her patrons.
Race 4
MADISON VALLEY showed very good improvement when third in his last start over 1750m on the polytrack. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will love the rise to 1750m. The son of Mambo In Seattle is a progressive type and with luck in running, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
ELECTRIC STORM stayed on when second over 1600m on this course last time. The son of Hat Puntano will love the extra distance on offer and he should be involved at the finish.
MAYOR OF MERRIVALE should have finished closer to the winner last time as he had to be steadied at the 1000m mark. He gets the pacifiers fitted for the first time which may do the trick. He is likely to race on the speed from the wide draw and must be included in all bets.
Race 5
FAIZAH has finished third in her last three starts, the latest of which was over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. She raced from a handy position that day and fought hard all the way to the line. The daughter of Querari should have no issues with the rise to 1750m and she can notch up her third-career victory.
ICE SUNSATION has decent form lines to her credit. She returns from a 14-week break, which may have done her the world of good. She has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. If fit, she should be right there.
IMPERIOUS DESTINY is much better than her last start suggests. She is a filly that likes to race on the speed and if getting her own way in front, she should be hard to peg back.
Race 6
CAPE EAGLE finished 1 length behind FORMAGEAR last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them at the wire. He is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D and has a good chance of keeping that record intact.
FORMAGEAR ran on strongly to win the Listed Christmas Handicap last time. He has won once, finished second once and third once from four starts on this course. He is in a good space and with luck, he can notch up the hat-trick.
ROCKIE REEF was given a peach of a ride to win the Grade 3 Flamboyant Stakes last time. Two of her six career victories have come on this course. Deryl Daniels retains the ride and she should give the males a run for their money.
Race 7
GLADATORIAN stayed on at the finish in the Grade 3 New Turf Carriers Merchants, but found one too good in the form of Dyce. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He finished second in his only attempt over this distance. He is having his peak run today and is the best weighted runner. The son of Vercingetorix should take a power of beating.
IMILENZEYOKUDUDUMA moved up well in his last start, but was caught late by Formagear. He has won twice from three starts on this course. He is having his peak run today and merits healthy respect.
WINTER GAMES is better than his last start as he took an awkward stride at the 250m mark. He is lightly raced with class about him. The son of What A Winter is fitted with the blinkers for the first time which should keep his mind on the task at hand. If not in need of the run, he should give the older rivals a run for their money.
Race 8
HONSHU showed some signs of a form return in his comeback run over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. The good looking son of Danon Platina would have come on from the run and will strip much fitter. His only career victory came over this C&D. If getting away to a clean start, he can return to winning ways.
PHILISPIEL stayed on when second over this C&D last time. He has won three times, finished second twice and third once from seven starts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
WAR EMPRESS is a winner of her last two starts. She finished third in her only attempt over this C&D. She is in a good space and should give the males a run for their money.
Race 9
This is a competitive Merit Rated 76 Handicap for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is TARA STAR from the Darryl Moore stable. She set her own fractions up front over this distance at Hollywoodbets Greyville last time. She won on debut over this C&D. The blinkers have done the trick and she can follow up.
WESTERN WISHES returns from a lengthy 42-week break and is having her first run for the Lorenzo Karriem stable. She is a filly with ability and if not in need of the run, she should give a good account of herself.
LE PREMIERE took on slightly stronger last time. She was reported to have cast a shoe in running and was reported to be fatigued. She drops back to her favourite distance and cannot be ignored
