In this Currie Cup betting blog we look back on week 3 and then ahead to week 4 with handicap projections, early betting, team news, weather and finally a bet in each game.
ORDER IS RESTORED
Posted 16 August 16h31
It wasn't stress free but both afternoon bets arrive with some room to spare.
Seeing a handiap at WSB for the Boland v Bulls but am convinced it must be an error.
BET: CHEETAHS V WP
Posted 16 Aug 13h24
BET: 3 units WP +16.5 at 0.92/1 at Betxchange
The handicap has been fairly stable in this game opening at -18.5 Cheetahs to the current -16.5 level suggesting some money for WP.
WP have been poor but I am not convinced by this Cheetahs team and I think the visitors can beat this handicap.
The points line of 65.5 looks a touch high and if pushed I would be on the unders.
BET: PUMAS V LIONS
Posted 16 Aug 13h20
BET: 3 units over 61.5 points at 0.88/1 at Betxchange
There has been money for the Lions and they are +5.5 from an opening call of +8.5.
The points line is set at a tempting 61.5.
This match is being played at the Nelspruit Rugby Club and conditions should be firm underfoot.
I think we may see a few penalties early in this one and hopefully plenty of tries as well.
A POOR START AND POINTS LINES ARE OUT
Posted 15 Aug 23h58
There was no Friday profits and the Griquas v Sharks game was a tough watch.
I see we have some points lines out for Saturday with 64.5 the line in both games.
I am going to sleep on it.
BET: OUTRIGHT MARKET
Posted 15 Aug 14h20
0.5 unit Griquas to win Currie Cup at 25/1 at Betxchange
I have decided to have a bet on Griquas at 25/1. I think this Currie Cup is more open than the betting suggests and I would not be shocked by a Griquas v Pumas final.
BET: GRIQUAS V SHARKS
Posted 15 Aug 13h52
3 units over 9.5 tries at 1/1 at Sportingbet
The handicap opened Griquas -21.5 and has been stable all week generally sitting at -20.5.
The points line is 64.5 and while that sounds high I am not sure it is high enough.
This Griquas team is full of running and while the Sharks have really battled to score tries Griquas tend to leak and conditions should be good with a nice hard surface.
I don’t expect 3 pointers to be taken and prefer the over 9.5 tries to the over 64.5 points as it takes missed conversions out of play.
WAITING FOR POINTS LINES
Posted 15 Aug 07h31
We have 3 handicaps at least but I don't think we will see points lines until a couple of hours before kickoff of the Griquas game
I have meetings out of office this morning and the 1st bet will likely only be posted an hour or so before the game.
In the meantime check out the Currie Cup chat I had with TheCroweTips and The Oracle on last nights edition of THE HANDICAP

CURRIE CUP OUTRIGHT BETTING
Posted 13 August 10h37
The Bulls remain favourites and I am mulling over a nibble at the Griquas 25/1 and also a Pumas play at 13/2 - wondering if the URC may not drain resources of the Lions and Bulls later in the tournament (must still check dates) - more later in the week.
No handicaps but last week they only came Thursday.
Blue Bulls 7/10
Golden Lions 5/2
Ford Pumas 13/2
Cheetahs 10/1
Griquas 25/1
Western Province 50/1
Sharks XV 66/1
Boland Cavaliers 66/1
