Australia won the T20 series at the start of this tour 2-1 and we now move on to the ODI's. This is a 3 match series with the second and third matches both staged in Mackay on Friday and Sunday

Let's start with the squads.

Australia Recent Form

This will be Australia's first ODI since they bowed out of the Champions Trophy to India at the semi final stage in Dubai in March. They finished as runners up to South Africa in Pool B in that tournament where 2 of their 3 matches were affected by rain.

In their opening game they beat England by 5 wickets in Lahore, their second group match, against South Africa was washed out without a toss taking place. In their final pool match against Afghanistan no result was possible.

South Africa Recent Form

South Africa were also losing semi finalists in the Champions Trophy, they lost to New Zealand by 50 runs. The Proteas topped Group B of that tournament, unbeaten with 2 wins and 1 no result. Either side of the washout against Australia they made short work of Afghanistan, winning by 107 runs and they also beat England by 7 wickets.

Head to Head

Overall the teams have met 110 times in this format with Australia winning 51 to South Africa's 55 with 3 ties and 1 no result.

The most recent meetings came in India in the CWC of 2023. South Africa won a pool stage match by 134 runs but in the semi finals it was Australia who came out on top by 3 wickets.

The Betting

Australia are 9/20 to win the game and at the time of writing South Africa were trading at 19/10

The Verdict

The third T20 was staged at this ground and Australia chased down 172/7 on a pretty good wicket although there was some turn and Zampa returned figures of 2/24 and Markram 1/6 from his 2 overs.

With that in mind I give Keshav Maharaj a decent shout of being the top SA bowler.
