TUKS v SHIMLAS

Shimlas were beaten by Tuks in last year’s semi-final going down 29-21 at home having topped the log in the regular season. Tuks only scraped into the playoffs finishing 4^th, but as mentioned in the Outright Betting they kicked on to win the Tournament.

Shimlas also hosted TUKS in Round 8 of the Varsity Cup 2022 winning 26-15.

MATIES v UCT

Maties finished 3^rd on the log last season with 7 wins and 2 losses in their 9 matches. They played the UCT in the semi-finals winning 58-19 away from home. The sides had also met at UCT in Round 7, but here it was a totally different result with the Ikeys winning 44-27, a result which helped the Ikeys Tigers to finish 2^nd on the log.

The North West University Eagles narrowly missed out on the playoffs last year finishing 5^th with 6 wins and 3 losses. UJ were 2 positions behind them in 6^th with 4 wins, 4 losses and a draw in their 9 matches.

These sides met in Round 3 last season with UJ running out comfortable 35-14 victors.

I will be treading carefully in this opening week, but I have heard good noises coming out of Pretoria and they are after all the defending Champions and always very hard to beat at home.

 

NWU -6.5 at 9/10

They are one of the sides I have got my eye on this season and I just have a feeling that UJ could be in for a hard time in this opener
