golf.tourchampsThe final tournament of the 2025 PGA tour season kicks off this week as the top 30 players on tour look to be crowned the PGA Tours Champion golfer for 2025. We will take a look at this week’s FedEx Cup decider from a betting angle and select 3 player to take on the bookmakers.

Course

This week’s tournament will be held at East Lake Golf Club for the 24th time, showcasing its lush parkland layout with tight, tree-lined fairways and thick rough. The course plays as a par 70, stretching to around 7,350 yards (6,725 metres), making it a demanding test of accuracy and stamina. Precision off the tee is crucial, as the narrow corridors leave little margin for error. Water hazards come into play on six of the eighteen holes, but for most pros, these won’t pose a significant threat, provided they avoid the rough. The greens are firm and fast, requiring precise approach shots to land in the right areas if players want to score well.

After six years of the handicap format where players would start the tournament already under par based on their position in the FedEx Cup rankings, the PGA Tour has scrapped this, and all 30 players will start even par and battle it out over 72 holes. This means the player in 30th position has the same chance as the player in first.

SELECTIONS:

Scottie Scheffler at 2.70

Scheffler showed yet again why he is the best player in the world by a country mile last weekend as he went on the win the BMW Championship. This was his second win in three starts on tour with the other result being a third-place finish. Scheffler is also the defending champion of the Tour Championship winning it last year by four shots. The whole pack will be hunting Scheffler, but he has already shown this year he can beat anyone when he is on his game and I get the feeling he is getting into his opponents heads in a manner not seen since Tiger.

Scottie Scheffler to win at 2.70

Such is the dominance of Scheffler that bookies have priced up a “without Scheffler” market and I will add these prices in brackets next to me selections.

Victor Hovland at 23.00 (17.00)

Hovland arrives in strong form after a seventh-place finish at last week’s BMW Championship. Notably, he owns the lowest scoring average at East Lake over the past five years, posting an impressive 67.40. During that span, he has recorded two top-five finishes and three additional top-15 results at this tournament. If he can start well on Thursday and Friday, he looks well-positioned to challenge near the top of the leaderboard.

Victor Hovland each way at 23.00

Justin Thomas at 29.00 (21.00)

Justin Thomas arguably has the best record at East Lake of any player in the field this week. In his last eight appearances at the tournament, he has finished inside the top ten on every occasion, including four top-five results. While his recent form has been below his usual standards, a return to a course where he consistently excels could be exactly what he needs to spark a strong performance.
