WSB Logo Orange 80x80Formula 1 is back after a short break and this weekend the drivers head to Circuit Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix. We take a look at the race from a betting angle.

CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

Max Verstappen stormed to his 10th win in just 12 Grand Prix’s and his 8th in a row when he won the Belgian Grand Prix at the end of July. Verstappen finished in pole, won the sprint shoot out and got the fastest lap. He now leads his teammate, Perez by a massive 125 points. Perez himself is now 40 points clear of Alonso who sits 3rd with Hamilton a point behind him.

Perez is 1/4 in the “Winner without Verstappen” markets with Hamilton 28/10 and Alonso 33/1. Red Bull also dominates the Constructors standings and once again bookies are betting a new market here “Without Red Bull” and Mercedes are trading 2/7 favourites to hold on to their 51 point lead over Aston Martin who are priced at 50/1. 2nd favourites in this market are Ferrari at 7/2 and they sit 56 points behind Mercedes.

DUTCH GRAND PRIX

Verstappen qualified in pole position in this race last year and he went on to win ahead of George Russell and Charles Leclerc. He also got the fastest lap for a clean sweep.

Verstappen also won in 2021, the first renewal of the Dutch Grand Prix since 1985 when Niki Lauda took the honours.

VERDICT

Verstappen goes in search of a record equalling 9th consecutive victory and it would be a brave man to bet against him. He is 1/4 to win the race, a starting price I have never seen in Formula 1, that forces us to look a bit wider for better options.

Lewis Hamilton has just missed the podium in his last 2 starts and he also finished in 4th place in last year’s Dutch Grand Prix. I get the feeling he may be setting himself up for a strong end to the season and I am going to back him to make the Top 3 here.

Suggested Bet: Lewis Hamilton, Podium Finish at 12/10

Fernando Alonso’s form has dipped considerably since the start of the season when he got 5 podiums in first 6 starts. Overall though he has finished in the Top 6 in 9 out of his 12 Grand Prix’s and showed some improvement last time out with a 5th place finish. I am going to back him to hold that form this week

Suggested Bet: Top 6 Finish, Fernando Alonso at 18/10
