Champions League Round of 16 Second Leg Preview

The final spots in the Champions League Quarterfinals will be decided this week. Here are the games we are keeping our eye on!

Barcelona vs Napoli (Agg. 1-1)

Barcelona and Napoli settled for a 1-1 draw for the third consecutive time in their first-leg meetings. Barcelona enjoyed a decent run of form going into the second leg, beating Getafe 4-0, settling for a 0-0 draw against Athletic, and recently beating Mallorca 1-0 – giving them enough confidence to face Napoli on the home soil and knock them out of a European competition for the third time. The Catalonians are yet to experience a home defeat in the Champions League this season and considering they`ve not conceded a single goal in their last 3 fixture, they will be difficult for Napoli to break. With Real Madrid enjoying a comfortable lead in La Liga, and out of the Copa Del Rey, we expect Barcelona to go full force to stay in the Champions League.

Napoli have done a fair job of preparing for the second leg – a 1-1 draw against Cagliari, a 6-1 win over Sassuolo, a huge 2-1 victory over Juventus, and a 1-1 draw against Torino. With the new manager, Calzona took the reins Napoli have gone unbeaten in 5 consecutive fixtures. The Naples outfit has also been decent on the road in the Champions League this season, winning 2 and losing 1 to Real Madrid. Although Napoli looks like a dangerous side, the main concern is they`ve failed to win in their last 2 UEFA clashes at Camp Nou, ultimately leading to their UEFA competition exits. We still expect them to give Barcelona a serious challenge as there`s little to split the 2 sides. Still, ultimately, we anticipate history to beckon and Barcelona to win, with over 2.5 goals in the game.

Atletico Madrid vs Inter

Atletico Madrid return to Estadio Metropolitano having suffered a 1-0 first-leg defeat at the San Siro. They`ve not done themselves any good in building confidence for the comeback as the Madrid side suffered 2 defeats, 1 draw, and just 1 win in the 4 games leading up to this fixture. They head into the game on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Cadiz and are also out of the Copa Del Rey after an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Athletic Club. Although their current form is poor, Simeone`s side is yet to taste home defeat in the Champions League this season, so we might see an improvement, however, considering they`ve won just 1 of their last 5 games in all competitions, and Inter`s current form, the odds are not in Atletico`s favour.

Inter Milan have been flying high in all competitions and don`t look like stopping anytime soon. The Italian outfit has gone 10 unbeaten in 10 games in all competitions and has suffered just 1 defeat in their last 31 games in all competitions. Following their 1-0 victory over Atletico, the Nerazzurri went on to secure 4 consecutive victories in Serie A, scoring 11 goals and conceding just 1. They are also running away with the Serie A crown, holding a 16-point lead on AC Milan, further highlighting the difficulty in stopping them this season. They are also undefeated on the road in both the Serie A and Champions League this season and it is unlikely to change against a struggling Atletico side. Therefore, we expect Inter Milan to win and over 2.5 goals in this game.
