WSB Logo Orange 80x80The Red Bull Ring in Spielberg is the venue for this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix where a dominant Max Verstappen will be going for a 5th consecutive win and his 7th in 9 starts this season.

It was business as usual for Max Verstappen in the Canadian Grand Prix as he took pole position and then comfortably held off Fernando Alonso who finished 2nd with Lewis Hamilton grabbing the final podium spot.

While Verstappen may be romping to a 3rd successive championship, bookmakers have priced up on a market without Verstappen and this is certainly much more interesting from a betting perspective. Sergio Perez, Verstappen’s teammate is currently at 6/10 with Hamilton and Alonso both at 3/1.

Looking at the points, Perez has 9 points more than Alonso with Hamilton a further 15 points back, but both Hamilton and Alonso have closed in on Perez in recent weeks.

AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX 2022

Last year’s Austrian Grand Prix saw Charles Leclerc drive to victory after qualifying 2nd behind Max Verstappen. Verstappen was 1.5 seconds behind him with Lewis Hamilton finishing 3rd, over 40 seconds behind the winner. Max Verstappen got the fastest lap.

Max Verstappen has won 3 of the last 5 Austrian Grand Prix’s missing out last year to Leclerc and in 2020 to Valtteri Bottas.

I can’t recall the last time I saw a driver as short as 7/20 to win a Grand Prix, but you can’t really argue with the bookmakers on this one as Verstappen is just that dominant at the moment. If you are going to back him (or anyone else for that matter) World Sports Betting do have a special this week namely if your selection wins the race and gets the fastest lap they will double your winnings in free bets T&C’s on their website.

Lewis Hamilton is definitely a driver on the up and he has finished in the top 3 in his last 2 starts so I am happy to take the 9/10 that he continues trending in the right direction and will back him for a 3rd consecutive podium.

Suggested Bet: Podium finish, Lewis Hamilton, YES, at 9/10

Another driver I quite like this weekend is Esteban Ocon to finish in the top 6 at 2/1. He finished on the podium 3 starts back but finished outside of the points in his last 2 starts. He has good course form to draw on having finished 5th here last year and that’s enough to get me on board.

Suggested Bet: Estaban Ocon Top 6 Finish at 2/1
