The TPC River Highlands course in Connecticut plays host to this week’s PGA Tour event and we take a look at the Travelers Championship from a betting angle.
The course plays to a par 70 and there are usually plenty of birdies on offer with winning scores generally approaching the -20 mark. With the fairways and greens relatively easy to find it is going to be crucial to have a putter that is on song if you want to contend for the win.

The week after a major it is always interesting to see how the players that were in contention fare having been involved in 4 draining, high pressure rounds.
Scottie Scheffler was 3rd in the US Open and he tops the betting boards at 13/2 at the time of writing with Jon Rahm, who finished strong in the US Open at 10/1 and you can get 12/1 Mcilroy and Cantlay with 14/1 and better the balance.
As consistent as Scottie Scheffler has been his putting has let him down and that is enough for me to swerve him this week and try someone further down the betting boards.

Xander Schauffele each way at 14/1
Schauffele comes in here as the defending Champion, but he is a player capable of going really low when his putter is on song. He showed promising signs last week at the US Open particularly his first round where he shot a 62 eventually finishing in 10th, his 4th successive Top 10 finish. Schauffele, although a fast starter last week wasn’t really involved in the heat of the battle on Sunday and I think he goes very close to defending his title.
Russell Henley each way at 40/1
Henley was 14th last week, his 3rd successive Top 20 finish and he certainly played some solid golf. Henley had some decent course form with a 6th place finish here in 2018 and he finished Top 20 in his last start here in 2021.
Cameron Young each way at 40/1
Cameron Young hasn’t been in the greatest of form in recent weeks and battled to a 32nd place finish at the US Open, his first Top 50 finish in 5 starts.
He makes his debut at the course so does seem a strange selection, but there was just something about his play over the weekend at the US Open that caught my eye as he was in one of the feature groups and I got to watch a lot more of him than I usually would. He definitely has the game to take this course by the scruff of the neck if he is in the zone.
J.T. Poston each way at 125/1
It is time for a reall roughie and why not last year’s runner-up finisher, J.T. Poston. That runner-up finish came out of the blue and he has missed the cut in his previous 4 starts in this tournament. Poston is hardly setting the world alight this year, but he did finish in the Top 35 in his last start two weeks ago and I am hoping that on a course where he has great memories he can find his best form.
