RACE 1
BRIDGERTON showed good speed over 1000m on the polytrack last time, but was touched off by Principessa Mia. The fitting of the cheekpieces and compression mask seems to have done the trick. He gets the services of capable work rider Sibongile Liyaba and in this field, he can shed his maiden tag.
RAPTOR ISLAND is having his first run for the Kelly Mitchley stable. His penultimate run when third over this distance at the Vaal was encouraging. If settled into his new surroundings and on best form shown, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest
MISS TUCKER has fair recent form lines to her credit. Work rider Hlumani Tsewu knows her well and she is capable of running into the placings in this line-up.
RACE 2
MY MISTRESS produced a promising debut effort over 1000m on this course. She was slow into stride, understandably raced green but the manner in which she stayed on at the business end was encouraging. The daughter of Greys Inn would have gained from the experience and will love the rise to 1200m. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
GIDEON‘S DAUGHTER is an unraced daughter of Skitt Skizzle from the Alan Greeff stable with Richard Fourie in the saddle. If not too green, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.
QUIRK OF FATE is lightly raced with some decent form lines to her credit. It must be noted that the horse that finished third in her last outing has come out and won since. She finished third in her only attempt over this C&D and should have a say.
RACE 3
PRINCE OF DENMARK hails from the visiting Justin Snaith stable. He has not shown much promise in his races, but meets a weak field and he should love the rise to 2400m. If all went well with his travels, he can improve to win a race of this nature.
SASSY is still a maiden after 27 starts. Her last two outings on the polytrack have been fair. She finished fourth in her only attempt over this distance. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
JOE HARMAN finished 1.5 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result. He has finished second twice and third twice from five starts over this C&D. S’manga Khumalo rides and the pair can earn a cheque.
RACE 4
MACHETE MAN was in need of his comeback run in the Stayers Stakes over 2000m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville last time. He won a good race in the Listed East Cape Derby in his penultimate start. The son of Act Of War tries the 2400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should notch up his fifth career victory
BOURNEMOUTH got up where it matters most to win his last start over 2000m on this course. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he should have no issues with the rise to 2400m. He does take a step up in class, but is in a good space and should be up to the task at hand.
CASTLETOWN ran a fair race when fourth in the Listed Memorial Mile last time. He is having his peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. The son of Silvano steps back up to the 2400m and can place.
RACE 5
PEUT ETRE MOI was running on too late when second over 1800m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville last time. She finished third in her only attempt over this C&D. This is the right type of race for her and if all went well with her travels, she can return to winning ways
LADY WRITER stayed on when second over 1900m on the polytrack last time. She takes a drop-in class this afternoon and from her good draw of two, she can go one better.
CRAFTY HEART finished 0.1 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
Race 6
SANTA THERESE stayed on when fourth over 1600m in the Listed East Cape Paddock Stakes last time. She will love the rise to 2000m as she has won twice and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. It is encouraging that Richard Fourie steps back into the saddle and she is the horse to beat.
VERONICA MARS produced a strong finish when winning her last start over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville. She has finished second once and third once from as many starts on this course. She should have no issues with the rise to 2000m and she can feature.
FUTURE GIRL finished 4.85 lengths behind the second choice last time. She won a good race in the Grade 3 WSB Stormsvlei Stakes in her penultimate run. On best form shown, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
RACE 7
BRENDEN JAMES should have finished closer to the winner in his comeback run over this C&D as he was inconvenienced at the 500m mark. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. He would have come on from the outing and should strip much fitter. The son of Coup De Grace is the stable elect with Muzi Yeni in the saddle and he can return to winning ways.
ALINGALONGA has finished second in his last three starts. He was running on over this C&D last time. He is likely to be settled near the rear of the field once again and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
CARBONADO fought hard for her last victory over this distance on the polytrack. She won her only attempt over this C&D. She is in a good space and should give the males a run for their money.
RACE 8
JOY AND PEACE is the best bet on the programme. She ran a good race when third in the Listed Lady’s Slipper Stakes on the polytrack last time. Her first two career outings were eye-catching. She won on debut over this C&D. The daughter of Master Of My Fate is the best weighted runner in this contest and with Richard Fourie back in the saddle, she should take a power of beating.
ERROLS LEGACY is better than her post maiden effort as she was reported to be not striding out. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She will love the return to this C&D and may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
HILDELITA was her own worst enemy last time as she over raced in the early stages. She returns from a 10-week break which may have done her the world of good. If not in need of the run, she can finish in the placings in this line-up
