Race 1
CREPUSCOLO produced a decent debut effort over this C&D. He jumped outwards leaving the start, but he stayed on at the finish. The son of New Predator would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he may be the one to side with.
NKANDLA GOLD ran a decent race on debut over 1000m on this course. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day suggests that he will love the rise to 1400m. He gets the services of capable work rider Goodman Dadamasi and should make the natural progression.
GUARDIA REGINE understandably raced green on debut, but stayed on at the finish. The son of Flying The Flag is bred to enjoy the extra furlong on offer. With Samuel Mosia in the saddle, he should have improvement to come.
Race 2
KINSHIN SHA should have won his last start as he hung in the final 400m. The son of What A Winter is a progressive type and Craig Zackey may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
POCKET WATCH cost himself winning last time as he shifted inwards in the closing stages. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
CIRCLE OF GRACE finished 3.8 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
Race 3
STRIKING ANGEL received a bump leaving the start last time, but she stayed on to finish second. The daughter of Royal Mo would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. If getting away to a clean start, she can shed her maiden tag in this field.
LIFE LESSON finished 1.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result. She is a progressive type and may have more to come.
BLUP BLUP showed good speed on debut, but found one too good in the form of Foreverinmydreams. The daughter of Twice Over would have gained from the experience and with Gavin Lerena in the saddle, she should make the natural improvement.
Race 4
This is a weak Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is TRIP TO STATES from the Chris Jonker stable. He stayed on when third in his last start over this C&D. The son of The United States meets the right field today and he can shed his maiden tag.
DUKE OF ROCK returns from a lengthy 23-week break and is having his first run for the Barend Botes stable. The son of Duke Of Marmalade would have strengthened up in his time off the track. He gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Siyanda Sosibo which will help his chances. If not in need of the run, he should be right there.
BREGARDT has raced in minor features in his last two starts. The son of Willow Magic returns to Maiden Company and with Piere Strydom in the saddle, he can show improvement.
Race 5
THE WORK OF LIFE has finished third in her last three starts. She stayed on at the finish over this distance on the Classic course last time. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and she will be mowing down the frontrunners in the closing stages.
ARIEL‘S JET ran a fair race on debut over 1400m on this course. She was green in running, but stayed on at the finish. It must be noted that On The Horizon has come out and won again since. The daughter of Diesel Jet will love the rise to 1600m and she is one of the leading contenders.
ANGEL OF MY HEART finished 0.75 lengths behind the second choice on debut. She tries the blinkers this afternoon and should make the natural progression. It is encouraging that Gavin Lerena keeps faith in the ride.
Race 6
GODFATHER took on stronger company in his last start over 1800m on the Turffontein Inside course. His first two efforts out of the maidens were decent. Gavin Lerena has a good strike-rate for trainer Robyn Klaasen. The son of Coup De Grace takes a drop-in class and in this line-up, he may be the one to side with.
COUNT YOUR CHANCES has produced two good runs since winning her maiden over 1450m on the Classic course. She finished third in her last start over 1400m. The daughter of Count Dubois is in a good space and should give the males a run for their money.
PARKER GETRIX stayed on when second over 1700m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. He has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and the combination must be included in all bets.
Race 7
OPERA GLASS showed good guts and determination when winning her last start over 1800m on this course. She set the pace that day and fought back well. Three of her nine career victories have come over this distance. She meets a similar field this afternoon and with Gavin Lerena retaining the ride, she can follow up.
APACHE FIGHTER finished 0.05 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
PATON‘S TEARS finished 3.5 lengths behind the top selection in the race referred to above. She is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
Race 8
IDEAL FUTURE finished 0.5 lengths behind COROMANDEL last time. She is 4kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. She is carded to race on 07 September 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
COROMANDEL was touched off in his last start over 2400m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. Should the top choice fluff her lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
AZUCAR finished 1.9 lengths behind the second selection in the race referred to above. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result
