Race 1
OXALIS GOLD has produced two good second place finishes to date. She stayed on when second over 1160m on the Standside course last time. The daughter of Gold Standard will love the rise to the mile. If this run has not come too soon, she should be the one to beat.
RAINBOW RIVER stayed on when second over 1450m on this course last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. The daughter of Danon Platina will love the extra distance on offer and she should pose a threat.
CITY LIGHTS moved up like a winner last time, but was caught in the shadow of the post by Canford Queen. She is back on the Highveld and must be included in all bets.
Race 2
AMERICAN REBEL showed very good improvement in his last start over this C&D. He challenged strongly that day, but was touched off by Mastership. The son of Rebel King is a progressive type and with a bit of luck in running, he can go one better.
PANNING GOLD showed some improvement in his last start over this distance on the Standside course. The son of Heavenly Blue is a progressive type and he should have more to come.
KAROO GOLD was his own worst enemy last time as he over raced in the early stages and did not go on with the effort. He should have won his penultimate start as he hung in the final 400m. If putting his best foot forward, he should fight out the finish.
Race 3
MOUNT DARWIN is better than his last start over 1400m as he had excuses. He was super-impressive when winning on debut over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course. The son of Ideal World returns from a 12-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. He should love the rise to the mile and if fit, he can return to winning ways.
GOLDEN PAVILION stayed on when second over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time. With a bit of luck from his awkward draw of nine, he should be competitive.
MISS SCALETTA was an easy winner on debut over 1200m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The daughter of William Longsword takes on stronger, but she could be anything and may be up to the task at hand.
Race 4
BINGWA won a good race in his last start over this distance on the Standside course. Despite hanging in the final 300m, he kept going well to hold all challengers at bay. He meets the right field this afternoon and can follow up.
FOREVER MINE showed signs of a form return in his last start over 1400m on the Standside course. He has won three times and finished second twice from seven starts on this course. He is having his peak run today and is one of the leading contenders.
EYE OF THE PROPHET finished 2.75 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
Race 5
DARLING HARBOUR is much better than her last start in the Grade 2 Wilgerbosdrift Bridget Oppenheimer SA Oaks. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. She finished third in her only attempt over this distance. She drops in class and can return to winning ways.
MAGICAL FLIGHT is better than her last start over 1600m on this course. If finding the form of her penultimate run, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
SPECIAL CHARM has consistent form lines to her name. She finished third in her only attempt on this course. With a bit of luck from her awkward draw of nine, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 6
DIMAKO’S JET stayed on when third over this distance on the Standside course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and in this line- up, she may be the one to beat.
PASCHALS SAMORE set the pace when winning her last start over this C&D. She received a three-pound penalty for that victory. The 7yo mare is likely to race on the speed from the widest draw and she may be hard to peg back.
DAMOVA finished 1.6 lengths behind the second choice last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
Race 7
PRESLEY is much better than his last start in the Grade 1 TAB SA Derby. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He should have no issues with the drop to 1450m as he won his maiden over 1400m. He does have a wide draw of ten to overcome, but Gavin Lerena should give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
PLATINA PRINCESS lasted long enough when winning her last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, she may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
SABRE STRIKE ran a good race when second in his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. He would have come on from the run and he should strip much fitter. He has scope and can feature.
Race 8
VIX PRINCESS has good consistent form lines to her credit. She should have won her last start as she hung in the closing stages. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. She has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this distance. The daughter of Vercingetorix can notch up her third-career victory.
JUST BE LEKKER was outrun late when third in her last start over 1100m on the Standside course. She finished 3.9 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate run. She is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
GOOD QUEEN BESS’ last two starts have been decent. Richard Fourie is likely to use her early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy and she may be hard to peg back.
Race 9
SAHARA DAWN stayed on when fifth over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Pomodoro will love the rise to 1450m and she can return to winning ways.
COURAGEOUS’ last three starts have been fair. She has won once, finished second once and third once from four starts over this distance. With a bit of luck from her wide draw of eleven, she should pose a threat.
CEUTA was an easy winner when shedding her maiden tag over 1600m at the Vaal. She does take on stronger, but has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.
