Race 1
WAITFORGREENLIGHT ran on from last when second in her last start over this distance, on the Inside course. The blinkers and tongue-tie seem to have done the trick on the daughter of Gimmethegreenlight. 4kgs claiming apprentice Trent Mayhew retains the ride and in this field, she can shed her maiden tag.
ENCHANTING LADY should have won her last start as she hung in the final 250m. She finished 0.75 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate run. She is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
LA CHANCE ran a fair race on debut over this distance on the Inside course. She was green in running and reported to be coughing post race. She would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 2
ZENOBIA’S GOLD stayed on when second in her last start over 1450m on the Inside course, but found one too good in the form of Superskitt. She is having her peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. In this field, she can shed her maiden tag.
ILHA DA ORANGE ran a fair race on debut over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course. She was green in running but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The daughter of Duke Of Marmalade will love the rise to 1400m and she should make the natural improvement.
LIKE A BUTTERFLY ran a fair race in her last start over 1450m on the Inside course. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride from pole position and back against her own sex, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 3
MASTERSHIP stayed on when third in his last start over 1450m on the Inside course. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He has been gelded, which may have been what he needed. The son of Master Of My Fate meets the right field and he may be the one to side with.
POLICY OF TRUTH was his own worst enemy over 1600m last time as he over raced in the early stages. However, the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
IRISH LOVE is better than his last start over 1800m. It must be noted that Marauding Horde has come out and won again since. He finished 0.5 lengths behind the second choice in his penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms and he may have to settle for the same result.
Race 4
DREAMLAND received a bump leaving the start over 1000m last time and stayed on to finish second. He takes on weaker company this afternoon and Gavin Lerena steps back into the saddle. The son of Lancaster Bomber will be mowing down the frontrunners.
SAN SIMON moved up well in his last start over 1450m but was outrun late by Mizzen Sail. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
TURBO POWER should have won his last start over 1200m at the Vaal as he received a bump at the 150m mark. He finished second in his only attempt over this C&D. He is carded to race on 19 March 2024 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
Race 5
TIME FO ORCHIDS is a winner of her last three starts. She quickened up well in a small field last time and won with a ton in hand. She is a class above the rest of this field and despite her big mass of 62kgs, she should take a power of beating.
GLOBAL THUNDER returns from a 21-week break which would have done her the world of good. Her form prior to the lay-off was consistent. The daughter of Global View is above average and should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
ICE STAR has decent consistent form lines to her name. She has won once, finished second once and third once from five starts over this distance. Apprentice Trent Mayhew takes 3.5kgs off her back which should assist her cause.
Race 6
MARAUDING HORDE followed up his maiden win with an impressive victory in the Listed TAB Hawwaam Stakes. The blinkers seem to have done the trick. The son of Vercingetorix is a progressive type and from barrier three, he should notch up the hat-trick.
THE BRIEF was an easy winner of his last start over 1800m on the Inside course. Two of his four career victories have come over this distance. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
FUSHIMI INARI was a tad disappointing in his last start over 2400m at the Vaal. He finished third in his only attempt over this C&D. The son of Danon Platina runs well for Philasande Mxoli and the combination merit healthy respect.
Race 7
HOME OF THE BRAVE stayed on when sixth in his last start over 1500m on the Inside course. He has won twice and finished third twice from as many starts over this distance. With a bit of luck from his awkward draw of eight, he can notch up his fourth-career victory.
RAFFLES stayed on when third over 1600m on this course last time. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this distance. He will strip a much fitter horse and with Gavin Lerena back in the saddle, he should pose a threat.
WILLOW’S WISH ran a good race when fourth over 1800m on this course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Piere Strydom is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
Race 8
MIGHTY GODDESS should have finished closer to the winner last time as she hung in the final 200m. She won her penultimate effort over this C&D. She does have to contend with the widest draw of nine but gets the services of Muzi Yeni who should give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
OCTOBER FAIR was running on when third over this distance at the Vaal last time. She finished 2.5 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate run. She is 3kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
HAPPY MO was an easy winner of her last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Royal Mo takes on stronger, but she has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.
Race 9
MARY’S GREENLIGHT was not disgraced when fourth in the Listed Ormond Ferraris Oaks Trial last time. She raced from a handy position, moved up but was outrun late. She has won twice and finished third once from five starts over this distance. She is likely to race on the speed from the widest draw and may be hard to peg back.
MAGICAL FLIGHT raced wide around the turn last time and understandably faded in the straight. She has won twice and finished second once from six starts over this C&D. Apprentice Nirvan Nastili is booked to ride and his 4kgs claim should assist.
ELEMBEE stayed on when third over 1800m on the Inside course last time. She has won once, finished second three times and third twice from seven starts on this course. The daughter of Pomodoro should earn another cheque for her patrons
