WSB Logo Orange 80x80South Africa will be looking to continue their March towards AFCON 2025 when they travel to Brazzaville and the stadium of Alphonse Massamba-Debat to take on Congo Republic. We take a look at the game from a betting angle.

These sides are playing in Group K with Uganda and South Sudan. Going into this fixture, Uganda and South Africa are on 7 points with Congo Republic on 3 and South Sudan yet to pick up a point.

CONGO REPUBLIC

Congo Republic opened their campaign with a 1-0 home win over South Sudan, but they found Uganda too strong on the road, going down 2-0. Last week they travelled to South Africa where they were beaten 5-0 and were already 3 goals down by half-time.

SOUTH AFRICA

Goals have flowed in South African matches and all three of their games would have delivered profits had you backed over 3.5 goals. They opened with a disappointing 2-2 home draw with Uganda, given they started 11/20 favourites, but bounced back with a comfortable 3-2 win in South Sudan, a game where they also started odds on favourites. They were 7/20 to see off Congo Republic at home and two early goals by Teboho Mokoena saw them ease to a comfortable 5-0 win in front of a passionate Gqeberha crowd.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Prior to last week’s meeting in South Africa the sides had met in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier back in 2014 with Congo Republic holding South Africa to a goalless draw away, but losing 2-0 at home.

Congo Republic 4/1

Draw 5/2

South Africa 7/10

VERDICT

The 7/10 South Africa to win looks a more than fair price given their dominance in Gqeberha, but also the fact that while Congo Republic may have beaten South Sudan at home, their previous two home games were a 6-0 defeat to Morocco and a 3-0 defeat to Niger, a game where they started 8/10 favourites.

BET: South Africa win at 7/10

Looking at the goals markets over 2.5 goals is trading at 12/10 and given the fact that this would have arrived comfortably in South Africa’s previous three matches in qualifying and the fact that Congo Republic’s defence has looked so shaky, I would have to say that this is a value play.

BET: Over 2.5 goals at 12/10

Some other betting options would be South Africa to lead at half-time and win the match at 31/20, you can get 2/1 South Africa to win by more than 1 goal in the Handicap markets and a Correct Score of Congo Republic 1, South Africa 3 is trading at 16/1. There will also be in-running betting on the game.
