Race 1

PHANTOM EXPRESS is a speedy sort who was collared in the shadow of the post when finishing second last time out over this C&D, just a neck behind the winner. She is a filly taking on the boys, but she will be hoping to go one better today.

JOKER MAN has only had the two runs to date, finishing third on debut over five furlongs and then fourth over the same sprint trip next time out, two lengths back from the winner. The gelding has his first run after returning from a 25-week break, but the engaging of Gavin Lerena would suggest that he is ready for a strong showing.

GREAT BARRIER has also only had the two runs, finishing third last time out over six furlongs, 4.75 lengths back from the winner, but he cast a shoe that day and could be the biggest threat to the top two selections.

Race 2

JUST NUISANCE is seldom far off the action, having finished second in his last two starts, the latest over 1450m, 0.6 lengths behind the winner. He battled all the way down to the wire that day and will be looking to go one better here.

OFFICER IN COMMAND showed some improvement in his second start when finishing third over nine furlongs, 5.5 lengths back from the victor. He lost 1 length at the start in that event, but stayed on well over the closing stages. The colt would have come on nicely with that run under his belt.

TO THE RESCUE steps up in trip after making his debut over 1160m and gets Piere Strydom in the irons. He should relish the extra ground on offer here and from draw six, he should improve on his debut effort.

Race 3

SPRINGER has finished third in her last two outings, the latest over a mile, 1.9 lengths off the winner, but her jockey reported that he felt that there was something amiss with his mount, so that effort was encouraging. She is drawn the widest of them all in gate fourteen, but will have Gavin Lerena aboard, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

SHE’S A KLAWER has posted two solid last runs, the latest when third over a mile, 4.75 lengths adrift of the victor. She was staying on that day and from a kinder draw four, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

VENETIAN MOONLIGHT did not quite go on with her effort when finishing sixth last time out over a mile, but she would have learnt from that outing and could have more to offer today. O

Race 4

APACHE FIGHTER had her consistency rewarded with a half-length victory last time out over eleven furlongs. She ran on strongly over the latter stages, despite shifting about in the home straight.

SPECIAL CHARM tried to go from jump to wire when finishing second in her latest outing over nine furlongs, ending up 3.25 lengths behind the winner. She jumps from gate five and is likely to adopt similar tactics here.

ELEMBEE finished a half-length behind the latter last time out in the race mentioned above and as the pair meet on the same weight terms today, she may well have to settle for the same result.

Race 5

WITBLITS goes for her hat-trick after victories over 1450m and the latest over nine furlongs by 3.5 lengths. Those were her first two runs for her new stable after relocating from Cape Town. She retains the services of in-form Calvin Habib and the trio is very much on the cards.

ROSY LEMON followed up her penultimate run victory over ten furlongs with a third-place finish next time out over the same trip, just a length behind the winner. She will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.

PRETTY IN PEARLS raced just behind the leaders before ending up sixth place last time out over ten furlongs, 4.5 lengths back from the winner. She gets a handy draw two and should not be easily dismissed.

Race 6

BATTLEGROUND put his disappointing penultimate run over twelve furlongs firmly behind him when finishing second last time out over the same journey, 1.75 lengths behind the winner. He should have no issue with seeing out the extra ground and despite having top weight, he could be the one that they all have to beat.

NAMAQUA BLOSSOM tried very hard before ending up in second spot last time out over twelve furlongs, 3.75 lengths back from the winner. She is a filly taking on males, but she could prove difficult to reel in over the closing stages.

RULE BOOK finished 2.5 lengths behind the top choice last time out over twelve furlongs and as he is in fact 0.5kgs worse off at today’s weights, he may well have to settle for the same result.

Race 7

CORNWALL stayed on well to win his last start over 1160m by two lengths. That was just his second start for his new stable and he seems likely to have come on further with that run under his belt. Kaidan Brewer retains the ride and a quick double seems possible.

WYZEACT has only had the two runs to date, but was narrowly beaten on debut, before winning by 1.75 lengths next time out over six furlongs and could be just about anything. The gelding showed plenty of toe in that last outing and the drop in distance should be to his liking.

RED HOT ROSE had solid form prior to disappointing in the Grade 1 Allan Robertson over six furlongs at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. She is a 3-year-old filly taking on boys, but she is surely better than that effort. She returns from a 26-week break but is trained by Mike de Kock who can certainly get them ready to win after a break.

Race 8

AFTER HOURS had his consistency rewarded with a 4.25 lengths victory last time out over 1160m. He sat just off the pace that day and then accelerated smartly to win going away. He has drawn gate six and should have no problem with the step up in distance.

SUNSHINE DAY followed up her penultimate run win over six furlongs with a third-place finish next time out when stepping up to a mile, three lengths back from the victor. She has cracked pole position and should give the males a good run for their money.

REAL RELIEF showed marked improvement when finishing third last time out over a mile, 3.25 lengths behind the winner. The gelding set the pace that day and on that last effort, he should appreciate the drop in trip
