Race 1
JAPANESE MAPLE took the lead at the 300m mark over 2000m last time but was outrun late by Callaburn. The son of Mambo In Seattle should have no issues with the drop to 1800m. He gets the services of capable work rider Phelisile Mongqawa and can go one better.
GLOBAL REEF finished 3 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 3kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.
RASTIGNAC showed improvement when fourth over 2000m on the Vaal Classic course last time. He returns from a 20-week break, during which time he changed stables. If not in need of this outing, he should give a good account of himself.
Race 2
SEVENTEEN AGAIN has produced two good second place finishes in work rider races. She lost two lengths leaving the start last time and stayed on at the business end. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and if jumping on terms, she should take a power of beating.
BELLISSIVAR finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
STROOPSOET was in need of her debut effort over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. She returns from an 11-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should finish in the placings.
Race 3
WATCHMAN produced a promising debut effort over this C&D. He showed good speed and tried hard all the way to the line. The son of Var would have gained from the experience and in this field, he should take a power of beating.
KOMATI RIVER is the stable companion of the top choice. She was in need of her debut effort over 1200m at the Vaal. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She is carded to race on 04 July 2024 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
BLAZE A WAY is an unraced son of Gimmethegreenlight from the Fabian Habib yard with Gavin Lerena in the saddle. He is related to four-time winner Clafoutis. If not too green, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.
Race 4
EASY ON ME ran a good race when second in her last start over 1600m on this course. She lost a length leaving the start but stayed on to finish second. The daughter of Duke Of Marmalade should love the rise to 1800m and she may be the one to side with.
CITY LIGHTS has some good recent form lines to her credit. She was running on when third over 1600m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack last time. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
BUTTERNUTENROOIWYN produced a strong finish when second over this distance on the Standside course last time. If confirming her recent improvement, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 5
MAMBO COME TESIO has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He stayed on when third over 2400m on the Standside course last time. He won his only attempt over this C&D. Muzi Yeni is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
MEDLERS TART was in need of her local debut over 1800m on the Vaal Classic course. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. If getting her own way in front, she may be hard to peg back.
UNITED COUNCIL had excuses in her last start over 2400m on the Standside course. The daughter of The United States has no stamina issues and with luck in running, she should give the males a run for their money.
Race 6
SILVANO’S SONG stayed on when sixth over 1800m on the Standside course last time. The son of Silvano has dropped in the ratings and he takes a drop in class. Calvin Habib is booked to ride and with luck in running, he can notch up his second-career victory.
HAZLO GRANDE ran a fair race over 1800m on this course last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He finished third in his only C&D attempt and is one of the leading contenders.
MAJESTIC TOUCH has been disappointing of late. He takes a drop in the ratings and it is encouraging that Gavin Lerena is booked to ride. From pole position, he would not be a shock winner.
Race 7
DUENNA stayed on when fourth over 1500m on this course last time. She won over this C&D, three runs ago. If keeping on a straight line, the daughter of Fire Away should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
HEART PEAKS’ last three starts have been good. It must be noted that the form of her last outing has been franked. She has won twice, finished second once and third twice from six starts on this course. She is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
SUNSHINE DAY showed good improvement in her last start over 1200m on this course. She finished third in her only attempt over this C&D. With luck in running, she should earn another cheque for her patrons.
Race 8
FROZEN FANTASY took on stronger in the Grade 1 Allan Robertson Championship last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She won on debut on this course. Kabelo Matsunyane steps back into the saddle and she may be the one to beat.
GIMMEFABULOUS ran a good race when third in her last start over 1160m on the Standside course. If seeing out the extra distance on offer, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
DOITWITHDIAMONDS won a good race in her local debut over 1400m on the Standside course. She does take on stronger, but has scope and should be up to the task at hand.
