Race 1

ROAMING SPIRIT is the best bet on the programme. She produced a promising debut effort when taking on winners and males over 1000m on this course. The daughter of Buffalo Bill Cody understandably raced green but the manner in which she finished off her race was eye-catching. She would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to beat.

COSMIC QUEEN is an unraced daughter of Var from the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable with Gavin Lerena in the saddle. She is related to multiple winners including Chyavana and Cosmic Star. If not too green, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her and the other unraced entrants.

TO BE FREE is a daughter of Danon Platina from the Tony Peter yard with Calvin Habib up. She is related to seven-time winner Spring Fling. If not in need of the run, she should give a good account of herself.

Race 2

WOLF MOUNTAIN has produced two good second place finishes to date. He showed speed over 1000m at the Vaal last time, tried hard but found one too good in the form of French Bolt. The son of Buffalo Bill Cody should have no issues with the rise to 1100m and he can go one better.

TOWERS OF GOLD ran a decent race on debut over 1200m on the Inside course. He should have finished closer to the winner that day as he hung in the final 300m. The son of Gimmethegreenlight would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should pose a threat.

OMBUDSMAN is an unraced son of Flower Alley from the Sean Tarry stable with Richard Fourie in the saddle. He is related to three-time winner Duenna. If not too green in running, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.

Race 3

BJORN IRONSIDE made the expected natural improvement when second in his last start over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. He raced from just off the pace and rallied late. He will strip much fitter and should love the extra distance on offer. The son of Gimmethegreenlight is a progressive type and can go one better.

BAY EMPIRE is an unraced son of Fire Away from the Sean Tarry stable with Richard Fourie in the saddle. If not in need of this outing, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other first timer in this contest.

CAPTAIN CLEVER is a son of Captain Of All from the Tony Peter stable with Calvin Habib in the irons. If not too green in running, he should give a good account of himself.

Race 4

DRAGON DRAGON is better than her last start over 1000m at the Vaal. She finished second in her two previous outings over 1200m on the Inside course. The daughter of Twice Over should be ideally suited to this distance and if putting her best foot forward, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

BILINGUAL should have finished closer to the winner last time as she was carried off a straight line at the 150m mark. She has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. With a bit of luck in running, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

WINTER IN PARIS was in need of her debut effort over this C&D. She returns from a 17-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. She tries the tongue-tie and should make the natural improvement.

Race 5

VJ’S ANGEL was an easy winner of her last start over this C&D. The manner in which she quickened up and drew clear of the opposition was eye-catching. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight is a progressive type and can follow up.

FAMOUS LADY ran a good race when finishing second in the Grade 3 TAB Pretty Polly Stakes last time. She challenged strongly all the way to the line but found one too good in the form of Simply Majestic. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

MISS SCALETTA showed good guts when winning her last start over 1600m on this course. She raced from a handy position and fought hard all the way to the line. She is in a good space and merits healthy respect.

Race 6

GREETING MY MASTER is having his first run for the Alec Laird stable. He should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung outwards from the 300m mark. It is encouraging that Gavin Lerena is booked to ride. With a bit of luck from his wide draw of 14, he can notch up his second-career victory.

JUDGEMENT DAY is a winner of his last three starts, the latest of which was over 1800m on the Inside course. He won his maiden over this C&D. Calvin Habib is likely to use his early gate speed to overcome the widest draw and he may be hard to peg back.

WARHAWK BOMBER was running on when second in his last start over 1450m on the Inside course. He has won twice from three starts over this distance. The son of Lancaster Bomber will love racing on this course and he cannot be ignored.

Race 7

PURPLE PITCHER has top consistent form lines to his credit. He raced from a handy position in the Grade 1 TAB SA Derby last time and fought hard to hold all challengers at bay. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D. This is a preparation run for the Hollywoodbets Durban July but he is the class horse and can win again.

MUJBAR showed good improvement in his last start over 1600m on the Inside course. The son of Muhaarar should love the rise to 1800m and he may be the one to fill the exacta spot.

PERFECT WITNESS should have finished closer to the winner in the Grade 1 tabGOLD Woolavington 2000 as she had to be steadied at the 200m mark. She carries a light mass of 51.5kgs and should give the males a run for their money.

Race 8

FIRE ‘N FLAMES was an easy winner of his last start over 1200m at the Vaal. The manner in which he quickened up and drew clear of the opposition was eye-catching. He received a six-pound penalty for that victory. He is in a good space and can follow up.

BLACK EGRET was outrun late when second over 1200m at the Vaal last time. He has won once, finished second three times and third once from seven starts on this course. Raymond Danielson retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

SILVER TUDOR finished 2.5 lengths behind HALBERDIER last time. He is 4kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned
