Race 1
This is a weak Maiden Plate for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is SMASHING from the Clinton Binda stable. She was a tad disappointing in her last start over 1160m at Turffontein. Her first two career outings were encouraging. The daughter of Rafeef tries the blinkers and if the headgear has the desired effect, she can shed her maiden tag.
SWEET JULIA returns from a 25-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of What A Winter has plenty of scope and if fit, she can show good improvement in this field.
LADIES DAY returns from a 13-week break which may have done her the world of good. She shows good speed in her races and from pole position, she may be hard to peg back.
Race 2
TRUE LOVE’S KISS has shown good improvement in each of her outings to date. She raced from a handy position over 1400m last time and stayed on at the finish. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight is a progressive type and from pole position, she may be the one to beat.
ACCUMULATE ran a fair race over 1500m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
VALLI GAL finished 3.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.
Race 3
KING’S ISLAND finished 0.95 lengths behind ELECTRIC STORM last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. He jumps from a handy draw of five and can shed his maiden tag.
ELECTRIC STORM should have finished closer to the winner last time. His form prior to that with the blinkers fitted was decent. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
ISORENDER clipped heels at the 1000m mark last time. On best form shown, he may be the one to cause the upset.
Race 4
RODRIGUEZ was running on too late when second over 1700m last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He should love the rise to 2000m and if not too far out of his ground turning for home, he should go one better.
AFRICAN DUSK won a good race in his last start over 1800m on the turf. He finished 1.8 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
RICCARDO finished 3.5 lengths behind the top selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms and he may battle to turn the form around. The 6yo gelding will be staying on strongly at the finish.
Race 5
ESQUEVELLE is better than his last three starts on the Highveld. He has won twice and finished third once from four starts on this course. He is likely to race on the speed and if putting his best foot forward, he can return to winning ways.
HITHEMHARDSUNSHINE returns from a lengthy 40-week break, during which time he joined the Alyson Wright stable. He has won once, finished second once and third once from four starts over this distance. He is the class horse in the race and if not in need of this outing, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
DONQUERARI was unlucky not to have won his last start over 1200m on this course. He finished 0.15 lengths behind LUNARCAM in his penultimate run. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish.
Race 6
KENNEDY won a good race in her last start over this distance on the turf. She raced from just off the pace, moved up well and kept finding all the way to the line. She returns from a well-deserved 12-week break which would have done her the world of good. If suited to the polytrack, she can follow up.
VISION OF WILL has good consistent form lines to her name. She gets the services of Rachel Venniker who takes the 1.5kgs off her back. From her good draw of three, she should pose a threat.
FULL OF MAGIC has taken on stronger company in recent outings. She is having her peak run and will be cherry- ripe. She drops in class and must be included in all bets.
Race 7
MISS ARLBERG is better than her last start in the Non-Black Type Beach Beauty Mile as she was reported to be changing strides in running. She returns from an 18-week break, which would have done her the world of good. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber will love the drop to 1200m. With a bit of luck in running, she can win a race of this nature.
LOVE BOMB stayed on when fifth over 1400m last time. The 6yo mare is a versatile type. She is having her peak run and on best form shown, she should go close.
AISLING stayed on when fourth over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. She has won twice and finished third once from five starts over this C&D. She will be at peak fitness and can earn another cheque for her patrons.
Race 8
BOWIE finished 1.25 lengths behind WILLIAM RUFUS last time. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today which should be enough for the tables to be turned. With a bit of luck from his awkward draw of seven, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
