PLETTENBERG finished third in his last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, but was promoted to second. He was interfered with in the closing stages and was unlucky not to have won. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. The son of Willow Magic jumps from a good draw of two and should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
APEX PREDATOR ran a good race when second in his last start over this C&D. He raced from a handy position but found one too good in the form of Gorgeous Guy. Richard Fourie retains the ride and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
SUMMER SHADE may not have seen out the 1750m in his last start. His best career effort came over this distance, three runs ago. He jumps from a handy draw of three and the blinkers should keep his mind on the task at hand.
Race 2
POWER STAR has consistent form lines to his credit. He was settled at the rear of the field over 1750m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time and finished off his race well. The son of Pomodoro should love the rise to 2000m. Rachel Venniker takes the 1.5kgs off his back once again and in this field, he should shed his maiden tag.
BASIE RAAKVAT ran on from last when second in his last start over 2300m on this course. The son of Flower Alley should be ideally suited to 2000m and from pole position, he may be the one to fill the exacta spot.
IRON MONGER finished 0.1 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
Race 3
MASTER JOSH has good consistent form lines to his credit. He set the pace over 1400m last time, fought hard but was touched off by Shampompo Shampizi. He has won once, finished second once and third twice from five starts over this distance. He is having his peak run today and from pole position, he can notch up his third career victory.
MR HENLEY won a good race in his last start over this distance on the Polytrack. He finished 0.1 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate start. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
MUSIC IS LIFE stayed on when second over 1000m on the Polytrack last time. He has won once, finished second twice and third three times from as many starts over this C&D. The 4yo gelding will be mowing down the frontrunners.
Race 4
DIANI has produced two fair runs since returning from a 10-week break. He won his only attempt over this C&D, three runs ago. The son of Ideal World will be at peak fitness and with Muzi Yeni in the saddle, he can return to winning ways.
WILLIAM RUFUS won a good race in his last start over 1400m on the Polytrack. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He is in a good space and can follow up.
SHAMPOMPO SHAMPIZI produced a typical second run after a rest in the Non-Black Type Fever Tree Stakes last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The drop to 1200m is a slight concern but he has the class to be competitive.
Race 5
BALTIC SECRET was not beaten far in the Grade 2 Southern Cross Stakes last time. She returns from a 17-week break which would have done her the world of good. She has won twice from three starts over this distance. The Justin Snaith stable is no stranger to bringing his horses back to the races fit for their return and she should be the horse to beat.
RIPPLE EFFECT should have finished closer in the Grade 3 SplashOut Prix Du Cap last time as she was held up for a run between the 350m mark and 250m mark. She won a good race in the Listed Pongracz Olympic Duel Stakes in her penultimate run. If finding the form of that effort, she should be involved at the finish.
CAPTAIN’S CHRISTY was running on when third in her last start over this C&D. If not too far out of her ground turning for home, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 6
DOUBLE GRAND SLAM was super-impressive when winning the Grade 3 SplashOut Prix Du Cap last time. She quickened up well and was geared down in the run down to the line. The daughter of Vercingetorix is the class horse in this race and if suited to this course, she should take a power of beating.
RASCOVA finished 3.4 lengths behind the top choice in her last start. She is only 0.5kgs better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned.
MINOGUE ran on strongly when winning her last start over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D and will be looking to keep that record intact.
Race 7
SNOW PILOT is better than his last start in the Grade 1 L’Ormarins King’s Plate. He returns from a 12- week break which would have done him the world of good. He won a good race in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas in his penultimate start. He has won once and finished second once from three starts over this distance. He is the class horse in the race and can return to winning ways.
GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE is better than his recent form. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. He is likely to race on the speed with just 54kgs on his back and may be hard to peg back.
UNDERWORLD has good recent form lines to his credit. He has won once and finished second twice from four starts over this distance. He has cracked pole position and must be included in all bets.
Race 8
LAKE COMO set the pace over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time, fought hard but found one too good in the form of Giambattista. He has won twice and finished third three times from ten starts over this C&D. His last two victories have come under Rachel Venniker and he may be the one to side with.
WINTER WAVES finished 1.2 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.
POLITICAL PARTY showed good signs of a form return in his last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. If confirming his recent improvement, he should be involved at the finish
