RACE 1
JUSTCANTGETENOUGH showed good improvement in his local debut over 1000m on this course. He challenged strongly all the way to the finishing post. The son of Canford Cliffs would have come on from the run and should enjoy the rise to 1400m. He jumps from a good draw of four and may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
KING OF QUEEN ran on strongly when second over 1200m on the turf last time. He is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
WILLIAM’S LEGACY was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1600m. His previous two outings over 1400m on the turf were encouraging. S’manga Khumalo is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
RACE 2
KYOKA showed very good improvement in her local debut over 1200m on the turf. The tongue-tie seems to have done the trick. The daughter of Danon Platina steps up to 1400m and from her good draw of three, she can win in a field of this nature.
VENETIAN MOONLIGHT finished 0.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
NAIROBI’S last three starts have been fair. The daughter of Divine Jet finished second in her only attempt over this C&D. She is likely to race on the speed from pole position and may be hard to peg back.
RACE 3
PEDRO moved up well in his last start over this distance on the turf, but was outrun late by Africa’s Rock. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The 5yo gelding meets the right field this afternoon and he can notch up his fifth-career victory.
SLAINTE MHATH finished 1.3 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result. Xolani Ndlovu retains the ride and he is one of the leading contenders.
WIND SOCK stayed on when fifth over 1400m on the turf last time. He will enjoy the return to the mile. 4kgs claiming apprentice Trent Mayhew retains the ride and he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
RACE 4
GUNSMOKE has very good consistent form lines to his credit. He ran on strongly when second over 1400m on this course last time. He has won once and finished second once from three starts over this distance. The 5yo gelding is having his peak run today and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
LEGAL THRILLER was his own worst enemy in the Listed Ibhayi Stakes last time as he over raced in the early stages. He will enjoy the return to the polytrack and if Richard Fourie can switch him off early, he should pose a threat.
JASPERO stayed on when fourth over this distance on the turf last time. Two of his five career victories have come over this C&D. The 6yo gelding may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.
Race 5
NOTHINGELSEMATTERS is having his first run for trainer Gavin Smith. He has been disappointing in his last two starts on the Highveld. Muzi Yeni is booked to ride and if settled into his new surroundings, he can win a race of this nature.
PAINITE ran a good race when third over 2000m on the turf last time. It must be noted that Official Secret has come out and won again since. He has won twice and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
CENTRAL CITY’S last two starts have been fair. He will love the rise to 1900m. He does have a wide draw to overcome but gets the services of Richard Fourie who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
Race 6
VEGAS GOLD showed good speed when winning his last start over this distance on the turf. He received a five-pound penalty for that victory. He has won three times from five starts over this C&D. Luyolo Mxothwa retains the ride and the pair can follow up.
ESTHER ran a good race when second in the Listed Lady’s Pendant last time. She has won three times and finished second twice from nine starts over this distance. She always gives of her best and should give the males a run for their money.
LIGHT THAT LOOSE took on stronger in his last start. His penultimate run when second over 1200m on this course was encouraging. The 6yo gelding will strip a much fitter horse today and if putting his best foot forward, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
RACE 7
PASSCHENDAELE set a fast pace in her last start over 1600m on the turf, but was outrun late. The daughter of Querari would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. She is back in Handicap Company and may be the one to side with.
EASY LIVING stayed on when second over 1400m on the turf last time. All three of her career victories have come on this course. The daughter of Canford Cliffs will be mowing down the frontrunners.
SUMMER ODYSSEY stayed on when fourth in the Listed Lady’s Pendant last time. She has won once, finished second twice and third once from seven starts on this course. With a bit of luck from her awkward draw of eight, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
RACE 8
YOU WIN AGAIN was running on strongly when fourth over 1200m on the turf last time. The daughter of Twice Over will love the step up to 1300m. If suited to the polytrack, she should be the one to beat.
IQEMBULABESIFAZANE has consistent form lines to her credit. She has won twice, finished second once and third once from ten starts over this C&D. If not in need of this outing, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
GLOBAL GODDESS is better than her last start over 1000m on the turf. The daughter of Global View is a much better horse on this surface. She runs well for Muzi Yeni and from her good draw of three, she should be involved at the finish
