The PGA Tour will host its sixth signature event of the season as the players head to Philadelphia for the Truist Championship. A number of big names return for this week’s competition which is limited to 72 starters and doesn’t have a 36 hole cut.
We look at this week’s golf from a betting angle and pick 3 players to take on the bookies.
The Course
The Wissahickon Course at Philadelphia Cricket Club will host this week’s event. The club is reportedly the oldest country club in the United States dating back to the 1850s. It is mainly a flat traditional parkland layout with the only water hazard being a stream that that runs through the course. The greens are below Tour average and so accurate iron play will be key. The course plays at 7,119 yards, also shorter than the Tour average.
The course hosted the Senior PGA Championship in 2016 but this will be its 1st start on the PGA Tour so our regular scouring for course form will be on hold this week.
Market Leaders
McIlroy returns for this week’s action and is the bookies favourite trading at 5.00 for the win. Collin Morikawa is trading at 15.00 while Aberg, Thomas and Schauffele are all trading at 17.00. Scottie Scheffler is sitting out this week after his hometown win last weekend.

Previous winners
The Truist Championship has replaced the Wells Fargo Championship which is normally played at Quail Hollow. Since this week is being played at Philadelphia Cricket Club, it is essentially a new tournament and so there are no previous winners.
Selections:
Rory McIlroy at 5.00
McIlroy is coming into this week with flying form. In his last five starts he has finished in the top fifteen twice, the top five once and he won the Masters as well as the Players Championship. With Scheffler sitting out this week, Rory is the inform player and seems to be the person to beat. He looks a worthy favourite.
Suggested bet: Win only at 5.00.
Maverick McNealy at 46.00
McNealy turned his game around after missing back-to-back cuts a few weeks ago. He secured two third place finishes in his last three starts, finishing third at the RBC Heritage only three shots off the lead and third again at the Valero Texas Open two weeks before that. He will be looking to add another PGA Tour victory to his locker after winning the RSM Classic at the end of last year.
Suggested bet: Each way at 46.00.
Andrew Novak at 61.00
Novak is in red hot form. After a disappointing final round, four over par at the Valero Texas Open where he finished in third place, he bounced back at his next event and got into a playoff with Justin Thomas at the RBC Heritage. Unfortunately, he lost on the fourth playoff hole. After finishing third then second back-to-back, he went on to win the next weekend at the Zurich Classic with partner Ben Griffon.
Suggested bet: Each way at 61.00.
